ok- new to the fox bodies- picked up 91 gt hatch w/ the factory EQ and 6 speakers.
i got the radio out
found out there was an amp right behind it-
found out i need to bypass the amp to run a new head unit.
i need directions--- im kinda lost at this point-
the harness from the radio/EQ goes up into the dash- and the harness for the amp has completely different connectors.
i have the harness hit from cartoys- BB and the other places all had the same one. with two skinny rectangular connectors. one black, one grey.
HELP PLEASE!!! only have a few days to get this car back in shape before i report to Ft. Hood!!!

Dont quote me but I'm pretty sure you have to re-wire. We always did when I was an installer.

just got back from Best Buy- the installer has a 91 hatch also--- he said to cut the speaker conector from the amp and use that in the new harness. and ill have to run the front speakers in series to use all 6 speakers. yay.................... :(

are you using factory speakers?
Just FYI, not that I'm telling you that you should, but I've personally run aftermarket radios @ 2ohm / channel, and it worked fine, under certain circumstances. Don't bother with factory speakers, in that case, though.

one of the main stereo harness companys makes a pre made bypass for the factory amp so you don't have to cut and splice and can return to stock easily...
BTW i found this out after i did it the hard way...
trying to find the link to their website...

i ran a alpine with the factory amp for awhile in my car with no problems, their is a correct adapter harness for a premium sound car, the speaker wires have a smaller square connector and there is the usual flat ford connector for power ect. just wire it up with those and be sure to hook the remote turnon lead in the flat connector so the amp will comeone, had zero problems but it didn't hurt the sound not that you would notice with factory speakers...
