I've always been told anything west of fort worth is considered west texas. And what is it if its not west texas?

It's just funny to think about the way Texas is laid out... D/FW and anywhere north of it is "North Texas". Anything east of D/FW is east Texas. Anything west of it is considered west Texas. Even though "west Texas" is about twice as big as east Texas.

My bet is it was drawn out by a meteorologist... <- Since we all know they're not right about anything :D :p.

What did you do at Dyess? I'm stationed there and hopefully about to PCS.

Software QA. I worked for HQ SAC back then, evaluating Boeing's work on the B-1B Flight Simulator software. 3907th SES. This was back in the early 90s.

What do you do?

The confusion is due to Ft Worth's "Where the West begins" title.
Western United States, yes. West Texas, no.

according to "traditional" texas geography, it's west of the cross timbers, and isn't also on the LLano Estacado too? that would make it "west texas." if I were pressed for why I think it's in west texas, id say for 2 reasons: it sees regular dust storms, and it has an old timey country song named after it.

dummy! "fuck" has four letters, not five, and it's, "shithole," not, "SHIT whole." also, hang up the asterisks, this isn't punk ass LS1.com. now, you might want to reconsider bad mouthin' texas like that, or else you might be walkin' down the street with three shoes. . .

my entire family is from Abilene and I was always told it was the start of West Texas...not sure if you still consider it West Texas if that is the case, but like everyone else said...who gives a rats ass. Amarillo isn't "West Texas" either, it is in the Panhandle!
