Cant connect to internet or hear sounds

i have 3 computers here at work. 2 of them are windows XP and one is still windows ME...

anyway, i tried playing spider on the ME computer and couldnt get it to work... so I went to control panel and did the add programs thing, did windows and checked the games, but i unchecked all the other things... did its thing, then restarted...

now games are there and working, but i no longer have sound or internet... i have DSL and the cable is still plugged in fine, but nothing... i then went back to the control panel and checked everything in there, system tools, etc etc and still nothing...

what do I do?

well i actually just tried that.. I have an XP disc and started to install it. it has a few minor scratches on it but was hoping it would work anyway.... so i put in, it does its little run, says it will take 72 mins to complete setup.. then it gets to part where it says copying files and i got about 15 error messages saying files cannot be copied.. they were all DLL files... stuff like (atmfd.dll, atmlib.dll) and after about 30 mins the bar at the bottom was still VERY little and still said 72 mins left.... but i kept getting these file error messages so must have been doing something but i quit install cuz i didnt know if this was bad or not
