NEW YORK (SI.com) -- Rafael Palmeiro, who last month became the fourth member of baseball's 3,000-hit, 500-home run club, tested positive for steroids, SI.com's Tom Verducci has confirmed.
The penalty for a first offense under baseball's drug-testing plan is a 10-day suspension.

Well, we don't know what the substance was, but its definately not looking good. I would be more concerned about lying to a grand jury at this point if it is indeed roids...just goes to show you :(

he could always use the argument that he was not juicing at the time of the hearing. i do not think what he said back then has any bearing on him juicing now. this really sucks. this very well may be the backbreaker on him getting into the HOF. i hope somehow, someway it was a false positive. we'll see...

True, I thought the same thing, but lets be honest here, why would you start now after knowing the consequences of your actions though? I guess all i'm saying is that in the eyes of the public and the HOF, there is now doubt in everyone's minds regardless and who knows, he may not get inducted now to the HOF. It's just plain sad ...I don't guess they will make public what substance this was will they?

It's enough to make me want to buy Canseco's book! Maybe he isn't bullshittin' us after all. Raffy doesn't even fit the profile for a 'roid user, but who does?

i am not sure. but if he contests this and doctors and labs get involved, he will want the public to know what he got popped for, as long as it isn't steroids...

This is an exerpt from the following link ...
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-orioles-drugs-palmeiro&prov=ap&type=lgns
In remarks prepared for a conference call Monday, Palmeiro said he had accepted his punishment and could not explain how the steroids got into his body.
``I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period,'' he said. ``Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program.''
I think its pretty obvious he is backpedalling now.

Palmeiro? A 10 day ban for a "first" offense is a croc. That is nothing but a slap on the wrist. Nice job in testifying to the Grand Jury.
McGwire could not have "retired" at a better time. He was the poster child for "Steroids". He knew this would happen. Man did he time it right.

don't you remember when McGwire got so huge on Androstine??? LMGDAO!
anybody find humor in the fact that the first big name that gets popped just happens to be on a terrible team? think they would be calling him out if they were contenders? anyone have pictures of his "Bill Clinton" hand when he was lying to Congress?

like i've said before, and i'll say it again...
99.99% of Professional Athletes have used, or are using some sort of performance enhancing drugs. They have to.

for those of you that are old enough to remember, the '89-93 Rangers were PUMPED! Pudge, Sierra, Gonzalez, Julio Franco, Sammy Sosa (briefly), and now Raffy. Canseco was there, too. You really gotta wonder.

I don't see them making much progress on the 8.5 games in the East, or the 8 in the wild card.

It was more exciting when they were juiced up anyway.
It is disheartening when a 'good' guy like raffy does it. Doesn't fit the profile or the stature of a roids user.

So people that use steroids are complete assholes, and can't be good hearted, sociable, liked by people, or even nice?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
that's funny right there

Pretty much;) No, not at all, but he serious doesn't have the physical stature of a roids user. I can name a ton of guys that are straight up assholes that have never hit the needle. He just seems pretty even-tempered.

Dissapointed, but come on, what the heck is that 10 day suspension? If I got caught using an illegal substance, I'd be in the slammer.

only terrible with regard to talent:result ratio

The best part is that he says he didn't knowingly take steriods, but the drug that he tested positive for was Winstrol which has to be injected...kinda hard to say you didn't know this was being injected into your system  Perhaps you can take it in pill form? Anyhow, its not like the cream etc.

Actually winstrol can be injected or taken orally.
He could have just been given a bunch of "suplements" to take, and not known what they are. YEAH RIGHT... Or he told someone, just dont' tell me they are steroids, and I will actually not know they are...
Either way, he had to have either injested the pills, or injected intramuscularly... Winstrol didn't magically enter his system

Not true. It is not illegal to test positive for a controled substance. It's only illegal to be caught in possession or to distribute it.
Unless of course you are on probation, etc...
