Laugh all you want but the baddest stuff out there right now for SPL is Pioneer. The PRS-D5000SPL amps and the TS-W5000SPL woofers are what Scott Owens used to set the Db Drag, IDBL and MECA world records. 179db on the AC meter and 176.6 on a Term Pro.
Oh wait, damn I just noticed the $1500 budget:)
Depending on your charging system I'd look for a used XS series kicker amp or atleast a ZR600. They are relatively cheap and make ass loads of power. They are however class A/B amplifiers and suck lots of power. The Memphis amp recommended is way more efficient but can't compare to an XS100 in all out power. Crossfire amps are identical to Memphis, if you can find one those go with it. Cadence A7s are awesome amps for bass as are any of the mono MMATS products and pretty much anything from US Amps.
For subs, whatever your budget will allow. JL has tons of products that will work for you. I prefer Diamond, they are cheap and have a really good warranty and I've yet to blow one. My 3 12s are atleast 3 years old and have been in 3 different cars now and still work perfectly. I never had a problem with JL products either (had 4 10s in a truck and a pair of 8s in another). I have however killed tons of stuff from Pioneer, MTX, Kicker, JBL, Orion and Rockford Fosgate. Not saying they are bad, just that I've had better luck with other brands.

but that is only $1000 and all things being equal, bigger woofers=more bass.

i hade 2 12" kicker solobaric L7s in a ported box with a kx1200.1 kicker amp in my mustang and they hit so hard they cracked my trunk real bad so i sold it all but it hit extremly hard....all that is prolly gonna be right at $1500, but its worth it.
Well I had to replace 3 windshields in my Talon and it only had 2 Diamond 12s and a Kicker ZR360 amp. You could buy the subs, amp, box and all the wiring for under $1000 and hit 148-150db:)

let me get this straight, you had 2 SPL subs that were louder than 1 single SQ(L) sub? You're not a very bright soldier are you? By the way, the Fosgate Power HX2's sound quality can most closely be described as "a retard banging on a trash can", i know, i've run them.

CM3s I think, whatever their cheapest DVC ones were a couple of years ago.

LMMFAO! The retard on a trash can... hahahahahaha
RF subs sound like ass... run 2-4 15W3s if you want SPL, run two W7s if you want SQ... ;)
The JL 1000/1 amps are my choice, unless you can find some older PG shit like a MS2250, or old old Orion stuff from the early 90s... :D

i prefer the sound of JLs subs as they sound clean with more types of music and can hit hard also. the amp is the key to the overall performance as any of the top subs sound great and the choice is more a matter of personal sound tastes along with the types of music you like.

meter, shit I dont know, was at some little ass usaci thing.
If it was on a laptop then it was probably a term pro, if it was a big grey meter then it was probably an Audio Control. I've seen a car do 165+ on an AC meter then barely do 155 on the term pro. My car went from solid 150s to 144-145 when they switched meters.
