Registered for the 1st at 10 am as well...... John did that last year and had a good time. The rev it up contest pooled the best times in each region and they all competed for a new RX8 at a national event. Corey Wells who autox'd with us in the BMW group represented Dallas. Ken Baker, black miata on R's, was also highly ranked.

Since we will be there we can have a mini competition!!! ;)

Actually, it says if you sign up, it's not an appointment and you're not guaranteed squat.

Actually it states the purpose of the "scheduled" time. Thanks for mis-representing it though. Give me a break man, this is a free event that's obviously a sales and marketing tool to try and win over car enthusiasts by giving them the chance to flog the cars. How can one bitch about a free flogging???

Actual quote from the website.

The scheduled arriavl times help us to manage the flow of traffic and dno not guarantee an appointment to drive a specific vehicle upon arrival.

Great driving Matt. Good to see ya again.

Didn't even try that course as it just seemed kind of lame... Only two I did was the performance challenge and the one with the RX8...

Had two runs on the Miata course that counted and got "offered" the third run with about 300 people watching and waiting for me to fuck up.... :D Almost did but got the car stopped about a foot from the cones after the timing traps and then couldn't get the damn thing in reverse!! So I drove around the cones...

I will say this much....that lot looked to be hard on tires. Not so hard as mineral wells but there were actually marbles from the tires on the outside line.

I am still shocked at how well I did given most of my experience is in High horsepower heavy cars...

Just for the record...28.977 on the challenge course which was a full .9 seconds faster than the previous mark... I am sure some miata driver will show up and best it by the end of the weekend but I must say my ego got a good stroking!! Guess I will need that new helmet?!! :p

Shit to compensate weight I am opening the trunk and jerking anything in it out and throwing it on the floor.

If I suck on the first run they can count on a powerbrake to help create some slicks for the second run. Maybe evan eat some cones for dessert.

So you are the one with the 28.9. We saw the time on the board and were thinking damn who did that... I only went once, the asshat announcer guy said to take it easy, so I did and ran a 34.4. It was crappy, and felt like my grandma was in the seat with me, but it was still fun. I think I coulda gotten into the 30s with some practice, the cone thing throws me off, my eyes don't adjust for it well, as that was my first time ever autocrossing.

The golf ball track was a pain in the ass, but my friends and I wanted to do all the challenges, and I ran a 31.01 on the second lap. Have to be really smooth to not have the damn balls fly out of the bowls. :(

Well they changed the first turn and opened it up a little to save the tires and the cones.....

I ran a 33.5 on the first run not being smooth and then added Propellerhead for some ballast and to reduce my on/off throttle switch in the second run to see if it would help. Ran a 31.XX on it but it felt much smoother.....Could probalby go back and squeak a 30 pretty easily. SEAT TIME SEAT TIME SEAT TIME!

As for the RX-8 I would prefer the MX-5 if I had to buy one for cone carving. The RX-8 felt like a long sled sitting in it and had no torque. Missed my stroker :(

As for Matts time it was still holding up today. There were a lot of Mazda drivers out there but they were not getting better than 30 flat.

i believe his name was mark something. lol i suck at names but he was there all day and they kept sending him out to "show how its done" . also the only reason we are making fun of these mazda spec guys is because several of them claimed to be quite proficient at autoX and were dogging on people who didnt do so hot and then ran like ass themselves. were not calling mazda spec drivers crappy or anything like that, just these 3 or 4 guys dogging on people and then not backing it up by running shitty.

Wow! I figured if anyone was going to get close it would be a miata driver...if not you! The funny thing about Miatas and mustangs on short tight courses like that is that the miata doesn't have the power to get it moving so you run a wide momentum line....just like a mustang that can't turn in tight and must run wide to both turn and put the power down. Maybe that is why it felt natural?

I wonder how long it will take them to post results on the web page? I have been looking at it every few hours...bye the way, my wife bought me a larger pillow today...maybe she is hinting that my head is getting bigger?! :D

Well, I will say this much...spec miata guys don't know how to use brakes. They attempt to carry so much momentum through corners that their driving style might be compared to midget drivers. Autox for them is foreign territory as you sometimes have to hammer the brakes and turn in VERY hard.

One thing I found interesting is that the 2425lb miata has the same brake setup as our 3400 Mustang GT's!!! No wonder that little car stopped so well!!!

Like I said, that was my SECOND autocross event. You've been dodging cones for years and doing quite well. I came from a karting background so I know how to use the brakes a little. :) I almost went back at 8 AM today to give it another whirl and get another sweet diecast car :)

I was 3rd and 2nd fastest in my respective hour groups when I left. Times must have fallen off considerably late in the day. I expected Jordon Musser to set fast time for the event, but he best he could go was 30.25 during the afternoon on Saturday.

I'm sure it was the first run I took. Timing was jacked up, remember hot lapper? ;)

However, the pictures show an interesting point. Assuming the camera fires at the same realitive time you're well past the cone while I haven't even approached it yet. There's .5 of a second right there. I need to ride w/ you more. ;)

That puts me 1 second ahead of you and my best time was 31.8 with extra ballast to keep me from spinning in the first horseshoe

One I thing I have been thinking about your car is that you need a new diff. For some reason it seems like you are lifting the inside rear tire and not putting power down...then the tracklock kicks in and causes the oversteer??? Just a thought because my eaton sure made a difference with putting power down out of a turn in my combo.

To slow me down with Weight or learn something!! :D

BOTH!!! LOL

I think you're probably right about the rear. I have plans to resolve this issue. However, that is a bit in the future. 3.73's while in there. I'm keeping an eye out in the FS forum for a rear. Time will tell. Thanks for the input.
