Ok, i'm going thru withdrawl. anyone have any good racing topics to discuss/argue about? Nick, i am watching the Dutch TT race at Assen on the 250's, and those mofo's are flyin!
So yeah, when is Mladin getting the hell outta AMA? Watching him race is soooo boring. That would be like Haga coming to AMA and racing. Not comparing the 2, but you know what i mean.

Yeah, love to watch those guys ride those 250's and 125's.
And, if you'd actually get a job, you could probably afford to get back out on the track. Thats just my observation ;) I could be wrong here :D

Hey James,
Wether I go to Florida or not, I will be riding the USGP 125 final at TWS the first week in October. I'm gonna need some help that weekend, you gonna be free?

Cool, I have buddies that come out there and help me. But, it's always nice to have someone there that knows what their doing. Makes things go a little smoother when all I have to do is worry about riding.
BTW- That race will be televised live on Speedchanel.

Okay: Why can a 600 carry more corner speed than a 1000? Is it because they get less speed on the staights? Or is it because 1000s are more of point and shoot way of getting through the curves and the 600 can have the throttle applied more while leaned over?

Well, i just hope i can teach you how to ride that quick. ;) Oh, that is what you meant by you needed my help right? Hahaha
So yeah, I can't wait til Rossi leaves! I like to see fresh meat win races, not the same old boring people. Yes they are good, but c'mon, go somewhere more challenging (Mladin).

The answer would be b! You try to twist that throttle mid-turn, and its highside city for you.

What are you talking about? Most of the litre bikes weigh ALMOST the same as a 600!

Oh yeah? Is that why I can slide past just about anyone on my little light bike? Come on James. Lighter bikes corner so much better. You can't tell me that a 1000 weighs the same as a 600. I'm sure they are close, but not that close.
And, the 600 will spit you off mid corner just as quick as the 1000.

Oh hell, here comes the argument i was looking for, leave it to you Nick!
First, we weren't talking about your gp bike, we are talking about 600 vs 1000. The 1000's weight is only about 15-20lbs heavier. So you mean to tell me that that much weight makes that big of a difference? I think not. Granted weight is weight, but still. How much of that weight is rotating mass?
And of course you can get spit off mid corner on a 600 too, but not as easily as a 1000.

Well, a lot of it has to do with the smaller CC bike's lighter rotational mass (internally). It takes more energy to turn a bike w/ more rotational mass versus one with less. This is why a 600cc bike that weighs nearly the same as a 1000cc bike will still carry more corner speed than the 1000cc (even with the 1000 having a 180rear and 520 conversion).

Same corner, same track, two bikes(one 600 and one 1000), Why would the 600 be quicker in the corner? The wheel base on the 2 are within an inch of each other, and I don't know about you but I can control the throttle just as well on a 1000 as a 600, so I should be able to go just as fast on the 1000. So, why would the 1000 be slower in the corner?

Ok, i just called Disalvo and left him a messege. He's going to get back to me on the weights of his R1, and R6. I'll also ask his opinion on the matter since he does race both.

Man, shuddup!
I KNOW the weights are very similiar. Yes it has some to do with a 600 going faster thru a turn, but not entirely.

We know this. Good point now. Why is your 748 going to be faster in the corners than a 600? Hmm, hmmm, tell me that one!!

It's because of the rotational mass inside the engine.

A 1000 doesn't have an advantage on a 600 unless it is on a big track where you can open them up.

so...could/would they ever do a combined event for ama racing? if so how do you think it would play out? im sure mladin will still be #1, but would some of the 600 guys step up on the podium?

Not a chance! That wouldn't be a race even. Thats like racing a moped against Nick. The moped will win! :D

If they had one, they should call it Formula Xtreme or something like that.

what? That would be the class to do it in if they'd let them run the literbikes in the class. Right?

Well, back in the day Formula Xtreme used to be really modified litre bikes. Now they changed it to 600's. So, if you were to mix the two, i don't know what you would call it.

A lot of the guys who run in supersport also run superbike. If you look at the lap times, the superbikes run faster lap times than the supersports.

The key to going fast on a small big is corner speed and you can open the power up sooner on a smaller displacment bike. Liter bikes go faster in a straight line and have to do more braking going into the corner and the weight displacement is more biased so you are a bit more careful sliding it in. Not to mention you can't wick the throttle as soon w/out getting sent to the moon. Same thing for moto gp and superbikes. Last weekend the superbikes had about the same corner speeds as the gp guys but watching those gp bikes accelerate in person compared to the superbikes is atrocious.
