my cousins b/f does the same thing, and he went and got the same exact bike as me, just 5 days before i got mine! and he knew i as getting it too!! he rides around with nothing on, has already laid it over like 5 times, once with someone on the back, its sad to see it all scratched and tore up. he claims he cant afford a $700 jacket, damn, what jacket costs 700 bucks?!?!

I know, just an excuse he used to tell people that didnt really know how much they cost, but the funny thing is, a couple of weeks ago he came up to my work, went out to look at the bike and came back in, his words were: "you mean you haven't laid yours over yet?!?" like it was something that is expected of everyone. i just didnt bother to comment

So ya'll are saying i shouldn't ride my bike with just a thong, wife beater, and flip flops on? Damnit! :D

Although i have been riding for almost as long as most of you kids have been alive, i went out once in shorts, and a t-shirt, and my helmet, and bit it pretty hard. Learned my lesson real quick. There are many times o go out without a jacket on, but i know how to crash good ;)

People never think that it's going to happen to them. So, they don't wear their gear. I am guilty of it as well. There are some days when I don't put the jacket on. But. I always wear a helmet.

Cruiser guys rarely wear any kind of gear. Your lucky to see them with at least a helmet on. Why is that more acceptable than sportbike riders?

I saw one of those over the weekend, first thought was GROSS, i dont know why people go without gear first of all, and to ride without clothes  maybe the cruiser bikers just have stubborn problems, or it makes em feel "bad ass" to ride like that

I laid my Blackbird down...well...actually became the trunk ornament on a Nissan Altima back in March. I was only going 30 mph but I know my helmet saved my head from going thru the trunk lid, my armored 200 dollar mesh jacket kept my arm from breaking as I hit the car, my gloves prevented the glass from my headlight and instrument cluster and other flying parts from cutting my hands up, and my steel toed boots kept my foot from being crushed from the impact. I ALWAYS wear at the very least a pair of regular jeans. I'd be one FU**ed up guy if I hadn't been wearing my gear. I will NEVER ride without it..and I will chew my friends out if they get on a bike without gear. You can only die one time...why make it easier without gear.

The leather=highly supple(more comfort), Highly abrasion resistant. It's true you can spend less and get a good jacket but if/when you wreck it may be the difference in buying a new jacket or just getting the scuffs buffed out.
A $200 jacket is way better than nothing though for those of us who can't afford dainese.

I rode with him once, and no more, it was the 4th day i had my bike and never been on the highway before, they come to my house and we decide to go to ft. worth, i tell him that i havent been on the highway yet, well we leave and get to the highway, were doin 90 on the entrance ramp, as soon as we hit the highway he takes off and starts that weavin crap with my cousin on the back, so i just cruise at 70-75 till we get to 30 where he is on the side waiting for me, on the way home same story, so i dont ride with him

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of stupidity people have. I see it all the time driving or riding to work, people wearing shorts, tank tops, no helmets, etc. I admit, I've ridden with shorts 3 or 4 times now and I just don't feel comfortable like that (heat seems even worse coming off the road, bike, etc. so it negates any cooling).

Gear..gear...and more gear.

The first thing I purchased was a full face helmet, then a cute pair of Harley riding boots, then a Field Sheer jacket, then a pair of leather gloves with that hard plastic over the knuckles...THEN I took a pre-rider course and finally the basic course...now I have a little bike. Too cautious? Maybe but I have seen what is left of people who ride with no gear and crash....I want to give myself at leat a fighting chance.

Now my question. I purchased the lil Harley boots because they are cute and they passed Harley's five point riding safety inspection. But I have been hearing a lot about boots with steel in the toe portion. I have heard that they can cut your toes off in a crash and I have heard that they can save your foot.

I'm a little undecided...any opinions one way or the other?

I don't see why they would endanger your toes really. Havn't tried on any harley boots but I've had motocross boots and wreck in those plenty and they had steel toes.

Has nothing to do with being an Aggie, I figure I have been in combat, wrecked a ZX-6, been on a helicopter that went down, had shrappenel dug out of my ass and been in an accident on the autobohn on Germany. I figure when God wants me the helmet won't much matter. I do see that most of the people who ride without helmet tend to drive a little safer than those with. I constantly get passed by some dude hanging off a gixxer or zx looking like a monkey humping a football running 100+ through traffic. I'd say you hit a car running over 100 your one of two things dead or veggie status. Opinions are just those though.

i hit a car over 100, and the only reason im still here and able to ride is b/c of my helmet. helmets do save lifes.
i agree on the part that God will take me when it is my time. BUT if i do go down on my motorcycle and live, I want to have my geear and helmet on to protect my self to the fullest.
