turn it off and make sure all power connections are tight, might have burned up your power supply

Would you work on your car with the motor running?

If you know what your doing some things might be able to be done but if not its prob not a good idea.

When it powers up, does the disk light do it's blinky thing or does it not come on at all? If nothing, then turn off the machine, Unplug the power supply, open it back up. Make sure when you plugged your DVD back in, you didn't loosen the HD's cable or power at the drive, or the IDE cable connection at the MB.

When you have closed it back up, put the power cable back in and boot it. When it comes up, there is usually a couple of seconds where it will give you a chance to get into the bios. It will say something like "f2 for setup" or some crap like that. If you can get into the bios, see what it shows for hard disk 0. It's usually on the first page displayed in the bios.

If it recognizes the drive, it may be recoverable. If it won't recognize the drive and everything was connected right, bad news. Try that first... lemme know what it does.

A few things to do before deciding the drive is crap.

Reboot in the recovery console, and verify the drive is not being recognized, if
you type "chkdsk" or "chkdsk /r" without the quotation marks - you may receive the following error

"The volume appears to have one or more unrecoverable problems".

If you receive this error, type "fixboot" without the quotation marks - press enter

if that fails, follow through:

314503 Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314503

Repair the master boot record by using the FIXMBR command from the Windows XP Recovery Console. For additional information about how to use the Recovery Console, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

KBLink:307654.KB.[LN]: How to install and use the Recovery Console in
Windows XP

For additional information about an error message that you may receive when you use the FIXMBR command, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

KBLink:266745.KB.[LN]: Error message when you run fixmbr command

Warning If your computer is infected with a virus and you use the FIXMBR command, you may not be able to start the computer. Before you use this command, make sure that the computer is not infected with a virus.

4. If the primary boot partition is a FAT partition, use the FIXBOOT
command from the Windows XP Recovery Console to write a new boot sector
on the system partition, and then use the FIXMBR command to repair the
master boot record.

You may also use the Windows XP Setup program to repair the
installation. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer. On the Welcome to
Setup screen, press ENTER to set up Windows XP.

2. Press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

3. Use the ARROW keys to select the Windows XP installation that you
want to repair, and then press R. Windows XP Setup repairs the
installation files, Windows XP automatically restarts, and then the
Setup program finishes the repair of your Windows XP installation.

4. Follow the remaining steps to set up Windows. Note You must have
your 25-character Product Key to complete these steps.

More than likely you will be okay with a new drive... does the drive make noise / spin up? Does the disk light part of it come on at all?

I'll tell you my brother works at best buy, and I was talking to some guys from the geek squad, what you should check is to see if there are any black spots on the mobo or any of your cards, when the comp is running dust moving around can short some of your connections on those boards, if you see a black spot you've ruined a board or a card. That would be my only guess, i've never heard of a blowing a hard drive by blowing air in your comp. I'd be more inclined to believe the dust flying around may have shorted something on your mobo.
