:( Sad to see it shut down. Wish it was open source all along (had there been a linux version of dvd decrypter and dvd shrink, I'd more than likely still be using linux full time).

SmartRipper's sources are out there. I used to use that before DVD Decrypter came out. Would be nice if someone would update SmartRipper (hasn't had any updates since 2001) to be in line with where DVD Decrypter is now. If not SmartRipper, I'm sure it won't be long before someone releases the next great dvd ripping application... and maybe they'll learn from dvd decrypter, and make it open source from the outset.

Shrink is ok but won't get passed some protected discs, i have yet to have a failure with decrypter. IMO that just sucks, i use decrypter as well as DVD shrink pretty much on a daily basis.

DVD Decrypter doesn't compress to from dvd9 to dvd5 I believe. I know you can rip the whole dvd and have no problems.

Your correct it doesn't but it will get passed the copyright protection and rip the entire disc content to the pc hd. Here's a link to why decrypter is no more....Let me be the first to say......Sorry Motherfuckers! http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,39020381,39202135,00.htm

Macrovision is the unnamed company, apparently. And it seems they did this in a preemptive strike, as their "rip guard" is about to go live. Since Arccos was defeated within days of it's release, I guess Macrovision got jumpy and decided they better shut dvd decrypter down quick.

But they'll puff their chests and say how unbeatable rip guard is. Riiight. I give it less than a week after release, and at the very least, AnyDVD will be updated to break it. I'm waiting until AnyDVD can bypass rip guard before I decide to purchase it (even though it's free updates for life). As long as AnyDVD is running in the background, decrypting on the fly, DVD Decrypter should be able to continue to rip any future dvd releases without any problems.

That is, of course, only if someone doesn't take up the freeware torch between now and then with an all-in-one solution like DVD Decrypter.

As for DVD Shrink and how it works with Decrypter, The Forgotten was released with the new Arccos encryption. I believe it was the first one. DVD Shrink 3.2 failed to even analyse the disc. But I ripped it to the hdd with DVD Decrypter 3.5.2 as an exact duplicate of the dvd without even a hiccup ... minus encryption/macrovision/region lock, etc. Then took it into DVD Shrink and proceeded to make it fit on a dvdr :)
