Is it the updates like sp1???
What would happen if I uninstalled them all?? I have 19 showing up and they are all using 20.18MB.

I believe those are the updates that keep the OS secure.

Usually the hot fixes are "critical updates" that either deal with security or stability issues.

Ok new question.
I can't get my computer on the internet. I try to install and it says modem not found. I know the modem is there because the laptop finds it.
Also my computer has a bug or two or three that need to be dealt with and generally cleaned up to run faster again.
Where could I take it and how much would it cost to get this stuff taken care of??
I am don't know enough or I would do it myself. :(

I'd say the avg rate is 40-75/hr for basic pc tech stuff.
I'm working on a coworkers pc now that he messed up and pulled apart a dell proprietary cable. If you've got the restore/os cd's there should be enough info on the net to redo it yourself.
Basically get your system to boot the XP cd and run it thru the install then patch it.
As long as it auto detects your network connection to get you on the internet you can download any other drivers.

Yeah, just make sure you back any important data you might have. After that, it is basically impossible to screw it up to the point of not being fixable. Meaning, you can try it and keep redo'ing it until you get it right. Tons of web resources and/or friends can help.
I would not invite high level IT guys to stand over your shoulder. Likely they'd get impatient...etc. However, some might be interested in taking 40 bux, your machine and software and baselining it for you. Hell, I'd offer...but I the last time I did it...I somehow got stuck doing 6 months worth of free tech support for their applications and crap. :)
Take care
