Or something similar? I'd like to have someone try charging the battery off of my laptop. Also if they have the install CD I'd like to borrow it as well to possible re-image my laptop.

Jose, is the recovery software not on a hidden partition?

Is the battery not charging up while plugged into the DC jack?

Nope, no other partition. Bought it used so no manual or CD's. Just can't see myself paying $80-90 to buy the CD from HP.

Not charging with the AC plug. I'm wondering if it's because I reformatted the computer and loaded WinXP from a corporate copy from work that might be causing a problem with it not charging properly. Seems like I've read that somewhere anyway.

I don't think that's the problem. I've been using my corp xp, and my nlited corp xp, and don't have any charging problems on my new laptop, and never had any problems with my old laptop either.
You either need the chipset drivers, which should pick up the battery, or if you've already got those, the battery is probably bad.

Update your drivers.
Try a different battery.
Do NOT install home edition.
Do NOT pay $90 for a recovery cd.
If you want to clean off your laptop, simply save all your data, format, install windows xp pro, reload all your software.
