So what else is new for me :( May sound weird but here goes. I formatted my laptop at the beginning of the year because I wanted to start fresh. Didn't have a CD specific for my laptop so I just used a WinXP CD I had and installed it onto my laptop. Didn't use my laptop for a couple of months after that but since then the damn batter won't charge anymore.

Is it possible that there is something specific for laptop installs of Windows that help with battery charging? This laptop is over a year old and I just don't think the battery has already crocked.

I just reformatted my inspiron 9300 upon receipt, battery is charging fine, and I used my nLited XP installation disc.

Check your device manager and make sure the battery is detected. If not, you might need to hit up HP's website and download a driver. Or, yeah it might be possible the battery is dead :-/

I wonder as well. I formatted this windows xp laptop to 2000, and for some reason, the cpu fan just spins like at idle, even im playing some hardcore game like warc III or some shit. I just reinstalled to xp pro, and now the fans moves.
