where to buy gear in dfw?

those mesh/leather combos are a two way compromise, IMO.

you'll spend 200-400$ depending on jacket and how good of a price they'll give you

Seriously think about the leather, you can find it for under $200 if you shop around.

ain't nothing wrong with joe rocket. i wear a joe rocket meteor and i had a wreck last saturday. jacket saved my skin. get what you want, just make sure what you get is armored.
