Personally, unless I wanted the KCA-420i, i wouldn't use an Alpine, but I'd prefer the 9835.

I have a 9835. The SQ is good but it can be a pain to work. It is buggy as hell with the ipod and kca-420i but the sound with it is awesome IMHO. I cannot comment on the newer model with glidetouch. XM with the new adapter for the 9835 is very nice also.

the reason I want to stick with alpine is because I already have the trek XM for alpine...but if I were to get something else in the same price range I could sell the xm tuner. I'll probally just stick to the 9835 unless there are any other suggestions? Im use to alpines menus and interface so that doesn't really bug me...

I would go with the 9855, I have the 9835 also, I should have waited. I like the glide touch. Most high end alpines are a pain but once you learn them, they sound awesome.

There is a definite audible difference in Sound Quality if you step up to a nice Eclipse. That's what I would use, and I prefer that my CD player not take an Act of God to operate.

Yeah, some people need the "easy" model. Heaven forbid you have to read a manual or understand the terminology to be able to operate the deck. ;)
I like the 9835 as far as operation over the 9855. If you have the chance, play with both in a store.
<-- Has 9855 and 9833 in the display.
