I am looking for some one who can help me gain some weight back. I had an anuerysm in my aorta in 98 and since then have dropped 40+ pounds. I weigh about 116 now. I have been put on medication to help and nothing worked not even Marinol. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
HELP ME!

you shouldnt be asking this on a mustang message board. aortic aneurysms are very serious and can (will) kill you if it ruptures. DO NOT use anabolic steroids or their derivatives. they are notorious for elevating blood pressure which would be deadly in your case. are you taking a beta blocker like metoprolol? how big was this aneurysm? why no surgery? you need to have your doctor set you up with a nutritionist to determine how many calories you need and what you can need to eat to get your weight back. i assume that your stress level (cortisol) is very high given your condition. has your doctor checked it? high doses of Vit C can help decrease cortisol...this hormone is very catabolic and may be the reason you are losing wt. how are your thyroid studies? good luck and take advice that you read on these boards with a grain of salt as most people have no clue when it comes to medical mgt of serious illnesses. good luck.

I have had the surgery. It was 5cm. i am on coumadin now and I can not afford xanax for nervs or anti depressants. I had a dacron tube to replace the aorta and a st. jude mechanical aortic valve replacement as well. i will not use a steroid so do not worry i just need good eats. Doctors have tried and tried to put it on me. i have no appetite and i think it is from depression.

you feel like you are depressed? sounds like you need to get a complete psychological eval...a quick check is the SIG E CAPS mnemonic.
Sleep problems?
lose Interest in things you used to enjoy?
Gulity feelings about anything?
loss of Energy?
Concentration problems?
Appetite problems?
Psychomotor retardation? (overall decreased physical/mental activity)
Suicide ideation?
if you answer yes to 3 or more then you are likely suffering from depression. you should be on an SSRI. you have medical insurance? you should given your medical history.

I do feel depressed, I do not work any longer and my family and drs. think i need ss disability. I had a killer job designing, installing and maintaining pilot flight training centers for uncle sam, traveling around the world. i can not lift weight like I used to and since I have become so skinny the wire they used to hold my sternum together stabbs me constantly. My 1 yr old dropped his head on my chest last fall and one of the stitches poped thru my skin. They just want to do another surgery to remove them. That one will be the one to do me in. i know there is a way to gain and gain health weight i have to put some on so i can build back muscle cause that is waht i am loosing now is muscle mass all fat and skin is gone. i have had a complete psychological eval. i do not sleep any more, I have a very short attention span now, which causes me to loose interest and get frustrated quickly as well. No energy cause i do not eat. I feel guilty as hell because I have become a worthless crap to my wife, we have 9 yr old twin boys and a 2 yr old boy. i can not do anything near i could do. I got over the suicide selfishness a while back when they wanted me to visit springwood in h.e.b.. I can not afford meds know we went from a total income of $170,000 to $65,000 a year. I have to wait and see if i qualify for ss which is a total disgrace to me i am so embarrased over it i am 37 and not worth a crap and i need to work my way out of it and the weight seems to bug me the most. Are you a dr and if not do you know a good group to see I might be needing a change of advise????? Sorry a lot of bad spelling i am trying to watch my son at the same time, so no time for corrections.

yes, i am a physician. it does sound to me like you are suffering from depression. this is a disease like any other. you seriously need to get some help. it only gets worse. you should be taking paxil or effexor. it would be cheaper if you go get them from your doctor but you can find these online without a prescription. paxil should be started at 20mg each morning and work your way up as needed...no more than 50mg/day. effexor XR is a great drug. you should start it at 75mg/day and increase as needed by 75mg no sooner than every 4 days up to a max of 225mg/day. good luck....and go see your doctor about this.

Thanks for the info dude :(
Why not just make it a priority to eat?? I know it's easier said than done but hell, if you can install flight simulators you can make sure you eat on a regular basis if you put your mind to it.

It just is not that easy. I guess it is in the mind. I have tried to make myself eat and it made me sick. I just don't understand it
