I'm fixing to get into a more active lifestyle, but wondering when is it better to exercise ?

trouble for me is, my commute from work is too long, and if i workout then eat, i would have to sleep shortly afterwards. (wait 3 hrs after eating before you sleep right ?)

soo i was thinking i eat dinner before i leave work, by the time i get home it should be settled enough then workout and wait 3 hrs and go to sleep.

Or an alternative is, join a gym close to work, then workout and eat when i get home.

Suggestions anybody ?

It depends on your body really. Some recommend not to eat at least an hour before a workout to make sure that all your blood isn't being used for digestion, and others I know don't have a problem working out on a full stomach.

I eat about thirty minutes before bed.

I eat 8-10 meals a day though. :D

I used to workout then eat. I'd get home around 6:30, make dinner for the kids, do homework with them, workout, rest, shower then eat. Shortly after was bedtime.

That was too hard so now I just get up extra early (5am) and workout in the mornings. It's much better on me. Might want to think about morning workouts.

If I am doing cardio I do it on an empty stomach (as much as possible). If I am lifting I try to eat a small portion of carbs about 30 minutes before working out and then eat dinner afterwards.

Ditto!

It works out perfect b/c I'm not starved since I've eaten breakfast and my gym is right here at the office so I work out & shower, then come back up and eat at my desk.

I've always heard it was don't eat anything 2 hours before you go to sleep. But if you're really hungry, you should just have a peanut butter sandwich and nothing more. When I go to the gym it's always about 2 hours after eating and 2 before I go to sleep. When I go bike riding I always eat about an hour afterwards though. Depends on what your body can handle. Try every method out and read up more on it, and you should find the right fit for you. There are thousands of methods out there too for every body type.

If you are eating right before bed, just dont eat as much. 200-300 cal tops will cover your craving so you can get to sleep.

I usually eat WHILE working out. Just this morning I had a donut and cup of coffee while doing bench press. I switched to triceps and had a Waffle.

I moved my workout to the morning because I also have a long drive to work so I hit the gym before. As for the eating QA it depends on your body,Its better to eat after your workout as your body will use the nutrients to rebuild the small tears you just caused. I eat every 3 hours split between food and protein drinks. If you don’t eat for 5 hours or so your body will switch from burning to storing. (Portion your meals so you will be hungry) I will have a shake before bedtime and I will wake in the middle of the night to have another.
