I knew that it would happen sooner or later. I did manage to keep it from her for about 8 months though. She hasn't spoken to me in days and is obviously very pissed. And get this, she had a suspicion initially and called my auto insurance company to "verify my coverages". It is truly a sad day.

Damn.. You're over 30 and your mother is calling your insurance company to check on you? That's rough..

I guess it could be worse.. My Mom has her own bike  .

<-- hid bike ownership from parents for 4.5 years. :D I showed it to them when I started trying to sell it. I thought I was going to hear a bunch of crap but they didn't flip out.

Guess I should have added.. and she's 60! She bought her first bike at 55.

Since I have both a step father and step mother my son has 3 sets of grandparents.. My mother is known as "Motorcycle Grandma".

I just told my father that I was getting a bike last night and before he could say anything I told him it's already in the works and you can't talk me out of it. he said that's cool, told me some stories of him falling and things to do and not to do, so that's cool. My sister was pissed but my gf wants to learn also. :D

Yeah, that's what I told her and she hung up on my ass! She owned an insurance agency for over 20 years and wouldn't insure bikers anymore because, 75% of them got hurt or killed. I can see where she's coming from though. I was going to post my age in my first post but decided to let y'all figure it out! :D

I remember my parents had a similar reaction when I bought my bike a little over a year ago. All the could do was frown down on me about the purchase but could not do anything about it. Now whenever I go riding my dad and mom just tell me to be safe. Guess they finally realized that the bike is not going anywhere.

Anyway, ride safe and hope you can make a GTG whenever we have another one.

my parents were shocked but OK when i first told them i ride. after totalling a bike and wanting another one, my mom was PISSED...understandably. but she couldnt stop me, i loved riding too much to stop. just had to learn from my mistake.

My parents didnt want me to have one at all. It took me about 2 years to convince them into it and I still ahve all these rules about riding and stuff. Then again, I still live in their house so I guess they make the rules.

My mom is always commenting on how stupid she thinks other moms are about trying to fight it. My dad took the bike out for a joyride the day I got it. Cant say I can relate to those of you that have problems with parents. However, my mom has averaged one wreck a year since I got my liscense..I on the other hand have never been in an accident. (Knock on wood)

LMAO! That is my mother to a T. I swear that woman would run my ass over and kill me just to prove that I would die riding it.

My Dad was my co-signer on my first bike when I was living at home many many years ago. He had a few growing up. His nick name was "Crash Humphreys", and he still let me get one. Mom has been cool with everything from the full length Sythe (the thing the grim reaper caries) my brother built in shop class to the first hand gun I bought. Either my parents are really cool, or they figured with 5 kids they could loose a couple and it would be ok!

my mother's brother died on a bike...he was being stupid, laid it down, and got run over by a truck which broke his back and killed him. i want a bike, but i would feel remorse buying one, because it would put my mother through so much emotional trauma. i will have to wait until i at least move out of state, or until, god forbid, she is resting in peace.
