is truly a work of art. I had the opportunity to put one through some intense driving this past weekend and am very impressed. I achieved 160 MPH with no effort on this bike and the handling is phenominal. The suspension is the most advanced factory motorcycle suspension on the planet and this bike will turn itself in the twisties. You can adjust the preload on the fly with the push of a button and it will electronically adjust while on the go. We put the bike up on the chassis dyno and at 11K the power was still climbing. It put down 141 hp at the wheel and still had more to go. All this with a shaft driven bike!! I've got some footage of the dyno and the bike doing 160. It may be a while before I can post the link as I am using a new camera. I will try to get pics up soon.

Compared to what? The 2005 GSXR 1000? LOL!

Technology sounds cool but I just don't like BMW. Pretty neat though.

compared to any supersport bikes. it looks like a katana with the banana seat.

hahahahaha.......kinda what I was thinking.
But I do have an appreciation for the technology side and 141hp is good number.

Ha, he said banana seat. Kidding. Don't hate on banana seats. I worked on an old Honda CB 500 and it had a banana seat. They are pretty goofy looking though. I don't BMW's but I think the tail end on this one is a bit better than some sport bikes. Some have the tail that sticks way out there and looks like an arrow or a dart.

the technology and the power it puts out is awesome. supposedly they are supposed to be comparing it to the hayabusa, but im not sure it would go that far...
but the looks of it are just not at all impressive

141's not gonna touch a busa, even though stock Busas are slow..lol :D ;)

141HP won't catch a Busa, but this thing is gonna out run it in the turns for sure! It also has a longer wheelbase than a Busa. Considering that this bike is a shaft driven bike and there is substantial power loss to the wheels when compared with a chain and sprocket setup, this is truly an amazing feat for BMW. Also this is the most powerful bike they have ever mass produced.

I hate the idea of knowing it is electronic...cause as we all know electronics can and will go out ..... Its no doubt a nice looking bike

Yeah... that's a risk you take with any bike. My 04 R1 has an electrical issue right now that the dealer is checking out. The best part about it is that you don't have to park it and make different adjustments to try to guess where it should be. It's simply done with a push of a button.

Here is a copy of the dyno sheet..... torque was not measured.....
and 141hp is good number.
it's also 1200cc's.
Compare it and the torque numbers to a 1000cc Gixxer
also, the long wheelbase makes it a horrible track bike.
how long is the wheelbase? how much does it weigh?
Anyone measure the wheelbase of say....a gixxer 600...or an R6, or even the new ZX-10? Shortys. Much like the Ducatis and Augusta's who are suspension masters.
Can't honestly say I'm a fan of the Beamer, but to each his own. :D

That is why this bike is going to be highly underestimated. The suspension makes it handle like a 750.

i don't understand how that could be. It looks like a big CBR F2, a shitbox on the track.
then again, I haven't ridden this bike so I can't say for sure.
I am willing to bet it is heavy though. Heavier than most which makes having a long wheelbase unfortunate for flickability. Meaning we won't be seeing this bike in any AMA or WSB series anytime soon. ;)
I actually wouldnt mind riding one to check it out though. I love riding any kind of bike. :)
Cool thing is, no matter how shitty a bike BMW ever makes, it will outperform a Triumph. hahhahaah :o
what kind of swingarm does it have? single side?

That bike won't even come close to a gixxer 600, r6, 600rr, or 636 on a track. It looks like a sport touring bike. Kinda like a zx12.

Just because its a BMW and it has a lot of gadgets on it don't mean crap. Shaft dirve is heavy im pretty sure. The longer the wheel base the less responsive it is going to be no matter what and there is no way it is going to outhandle one of those other bikes I posted. It has a bananna seat with a long wheel base and shaft drive. All that is is a rich persons cruiser since he wont ever have to care for a chain, he can do his adjustments without getting dirty, and can be comfortable on a nice fat seat.
Sorry if I repeated myself a couple of times. :o

if you don't like it, don't fucking buy it. simple as that. personally, i think it looks pretty damn good. and 141 rwhp is plenty for anyone here. period.

Hey now, I hate taking care of my chain on the cruiser. I got spoiled with shaft and belt drives. My purdy wheels get kinda dirty now. ;)

everyone is a fan of something i guess.

besides, nobody here is riding anything to it's potential unless Nicky Hayden or Valentino Rossi just became a member of the boards. hahah  :D

I ride the crap out of my bike when I hit the twisties. I know what it feels like to use a bike for what it is made for. If you put rossi on that BMW and then put him on one of the jap sport bikes I bet you his time will not be as good on the BMW period simple fact.

well no shit, einstein. but since you or i will never be as good as rossi, put rossi on that and you on your 636 and he smokes you, plain and simple. the fact is, those of us that ride on the street could really not tell a difference when it comes down to it...

I could tell a huge difference if I rode that and then my 636. If that bike is heavier (which I bet it is) and has a longer wheelbase it is not going to turn as good and that will be slower even with people not as good as rossi. So you are telling me i would not be able to tell a difference in bikes even if one weighs more and has a longer wheel base. mmmmkay.

Does it have a horizontal engine like the other bimmer 'sport bikes'? I'm sure its chaulked full of neat hitech items. If they put it on a diet visually, and modeled it after anything say 99 r6 or newer, that'd bring it into the real buying leagues of the japanese.
Course I bet that thing ain't cheap either.
if you're gonna buy an expensive sportbike, you might as well buy an Augusta or a Duc. :D :p
Or buy an RC51 and dump $10g into it to make it the bad boy it really is.

Called BMW of ft. worth and got the low down as I was curious how much $
Base $15750
abs brakes $995
electonic adjustable suspension $750
computer (not sure what that does) $200
heated grips $200
alarm $210
Not too bad for bimmer.
heated grips?
hahhahahahhahahahhhaa.....okay, this is definitely not a sportbike. this is a hot rodded Goldwing. lmao

The engine is slanted but not like the previous models. I know that no one believes this, but the bike handles like a damn 750 sportbike. I've ridden over 100 different bikes and this one is waaaaay different! Just because it's big and has a longer wheelbase does not mean that it handles like a traditional bike of that size. Trust me!
And don't knock the heated grips. They are badass when your gloves are thin and the air is cold.
