ok so i have been working out for a few months now and have seen great changes in my health.
last week i went running and really messed up my ankel. it might require surgery. my question is what are some exersises i could to to help keep the fat off and the new muscles on.
i am still eating healthy but am unable to go work out. any and all advice would be verry apretiated.

Swim. Swimming IMO is the #1 cardio workout. Full body resistance, but not jarring like running does. After the the elyptical (sp?) machines. I'd avoid the stair climbers and bikes since they mainly only work the legs. You'll still get winded, but if you are going to be soing something for 15-60 minutes why not make the most of it?

Ankle injure + cast = screwed
Frankly, I don't see how you could do much if your ankle/leg requires immobilization. Even the OTHER types of cardio that I don't care for require leg movement. You could get a wheel chair and wheel yourself around for hours. Maybe do upper body aerobics. OH! Punch the hell out of punching bags and stuff.
HOPEFULLY that'll sparks some ideas.

dang ok. well thanks anyways man at least you gave me some ideas for thearapy (sp?). i guess im screwed for a couple of months.
Ankle, that's a bad one. I have gone through it 3 times. The last one was 3 months no walking and another 6 months no running. Got my legs into pretty bad shape and I lost about 30lb.
Get some free weights so you can do upper body. It all depends on how bad the ankle is, whether you can move it at all or keep it completely in place. Mine, I wasn't even allowed to rest it on its own weight againts the floor, had to keep it up so if it is that bad there isn't much you can do.
As for keeping fat away, you need to adjust your diet for less calories naturally. Won't help much with keeping the muscles but what can you do. If you can't exercise you won't keep the muscles that well anyway so maybe you should use the time to get extra lean. Crunches can be done without moving the lower body so at least you can burn calories that way. Pushups with knees on the ground maybe, you would know better if you can do it or not.

Keep working out and do crunches, and like 1000 pushups a aday and just cut back on your carbs

how far up your leg is the cast? able to bend your leg? maybe a rowing machine... some places have something normally used for people that cannot use their legs. you sit on it and place your hands on "pedals" and basically do a circular motion.. may not be the greatest but could help :)
