Slim in 6 - it's on the web somewhere.

In 6 weeks, I lost 40 pounds. Dropped from a size 12 to a size 6 (misses sizes) and still losing. Guys do better on this diet....not sure why... but I had great results even if I am female.

You gotta stick with it. I still work out with the tapes and eat what is recommended. It's not a diet....it's a life change.

What are you already doing to make this goal? What are your food portions like? And what are you eating? Water vs. sugar loaded drinks? Are you doing any type of excersize? weights or cardio?

I would say the fastest way is the Atkins diet...but it's hard. I gone as long as a day and 1/2 and gave up. It just wasn't for me. Hydroxycut made me feel that way a few times, I just cut back to 2 twice daily, but I hope you don't think that'll work just by itself.

JPS got it right...it's a life change. so if you're not gonna change anything as far as food quality or activity level....I wouldn't bother cause it can all come back + some.

Yep, it's very hard on your body. I wouldn't recommend it as he wanted a safe diet.

I just read about it and I would stay away. Nothing that isn't available for free.

That seems way too fast. Of course if you're 400lb then it might possible to lose that without losing muscle but most likely you're losing mostly muscle and that is very unhealthy. Rapid weightloss is not the best way to achieve permanent results. What would tell more, and is more important, is how much fat did you lose versus muscle. Always measure your BF while on (fad) diet, weight is secondary. Even when not on diet, BF is much more important indication than weight.

First of all, I threw my scale out when I started dieting. I decided I wanted to go for the size not weight (because I'm 5'8" and will never be petite). The only reason I know what I lost is that I got sick and had to go to the doctor for strep and he just had to weigh me. I was surprised.

I do know my BMI went from 29.6 to 22.8 according to a trainer I saw before the diet. I guess you shouldn't worry about people like me when it comes to losing weight. My bedroom is not a typical "romantic" setting. It contains a Weider C650 weight set and a treadmill. I didn't do this without consulting a doctor and a personal trainer.

Good luck to you.

Patty

That still only tells you how much weight you lost, not how much fat. Next time you see a personal trainer, you should get your BF measured. That way you can track what you have lost. You had great results but to make sure they were the right kind of results you are much better off knowing your body composition. How you look is a good indication of what is happening but even that can sometimes be deceiving (and it is hard to see the results when you see yourself every single day). The article I posted is a good read on the subject.

The bad thing about losing a lot of weight in a short time is the unavoidable muscle loss. It works against you in many ways and it is one of the biggest reasons why people that go on-and-off on diets end up fatter in the end. You lose muscle on your diet, get off and gain it back in fat. You do it again and lose even more muscle, then gain fat in its place once you stop the diet. That's why the only good diet is a permanent change in the way you eat (for other than athletes).

Sami - you're absolutely right about losing muscle. I know I'm not as strong as I used to be. But, as a girl who was extremely strong (for a girl) I'm not concerned about my muscle mass. I am toning up, I feel great, look even better and will continue to eat and exercise at least 5 days a week. I just makes me feel better. Not every diet or life change is right for everyone. This one happens to work for me.

As for the trainer, I'll see if she'll measure my BF and see what it is. I do know my doctor is very proud of me and said to keep up the good work. I have hypothyroidism and that's why I gained all the weight in the first place. It wasn't due all to laziness.

So, I am seeing a doctor on a regular basis, blood work is done every 3 months and I see a trainer once in a while, and exercise and eat right daily (well almost daily).

Excellent. While you are doing great telling from the results, a drastic change in BF will tell you if you're going in the wrong or right direction. I started a diet (quite spartan at first, I have now eased on it a little) 5 weeks ago and I have gone up 4lb in weight. Body composition told me that I have gained 6lb of lean muscle and lost 2lb of fat. Exactly what I was after, the opposite way would have been a disaster.

Now I'm going to add more cardio to the mix to see if I can squeeze down below 10% BF before the pool season starts. Even then, the average doctor would tell me I am overweight (26.5 BMI) and I should lose weight.

I'm not concerned about my muscle mass

You might not want to be muscular but by losing more muscle than fat you're going in the wrong direction.

It's rather simple math.

Calories ingested > Calories Expended = Weight Gain
Calories ingested < Calories Expended = Weight Loss

See how simple?

I would say the fastest way is the Atkins diet...but it's hard. Although it may be the fastest it certainly is not the safest. A person who is doing regular exercise needs approx. 150 carbs a day for energy or 40-50% of your caloric intake. The Adkins wont let you do this. The best and safest way to loose weight and fat is cardio and reduction in sugar, saturated fat and trans fat (partially hydrogenated oils) in your diet. And make sure you eat breakfast.

Ingest less calories than you expend on a daily basis. It truly is that simple.

You can do this through reducing your caloric intake (calories ingested) or by increase your activity (calories expended). Or a combination of both.

Unless you have some goal of 6% body fat, this will work. To get down under 10% you need to really watch what you eat. But getting 10% is as no brainer as calories ingested < calories expended.

the SAFEST way is to.. eat 6 SMALL meals a day to speed up your metabolism and so you are now starving your body to want to eat a huge meal.. you will also need to do cardio exercises.. just stick to it and the pounds will shave off before you know it... i lost 34 lbs in 6 weeks on it...

I will agree with this. I havent lost 34 lbs but i have lost 20-25 in 2 months. Cut your calories in half. Drink LOTS of water. It takes 4 ounces of water to help your body metabloize 1 gram of fat. The small amount of food will drive you CRAZY for the first few weeks but you will get used to it. Absolutely NO sodas!! Whole wheat bread is your friend as well. For breakfast eat something high in fiber such as shredded wheat. Lunch eat something very light like a PB banana sandwich. Dinner do something like a chicken breast. Find your own grove with the foods you like. Its all about moderation.

Oh, and get yourself a good multivitamin. One a day for men is a good cheap one.

I started eating a bit healthier and going to the th gym every now and then for a 30-45 minute workout, and I have lost 15lbs. the weight seems to stay off easier too. I drink a lot of water/tuna/slim fast/chicken. I cheat a lot but I am still making progress. I have been doing 15-20 minutes of cardio and the rest weight lifting. I feel bigger, but I am losing wieght. Might work for you.
