boot from USB memory stick

anyone done this? I am setting up a drive duplicator and would like to boot the machine from USB. The machine is set to "boot from USB" and attempts to boot from the thumbdrive but stops at "operating system not found"

Is there USB drivers, autoexec.bat, or special startup files to boot from a USB memory stick?

(http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/forums/showthread.php?t=425) I've been meaning to try the same (not a drive duplicator, but booting off mem card) for some time and had this link filed away. An IDE adapter is likely not be acceptable for your situation, but nevertheless this info may provide some insight...
