I hyperextended my knee in Jiu-jitsu class yesterday. I knew exactly what I did when I did it but was able to finish the class with no pain or discomfort. Everything was fine until 3 this morning when I was woken up by pain and minor swelling on the left side (inside) of my right knee. I took some ibuprofen and was able to get back to sleep and move around today with very minor discomfort.

Would I have known right away if I tore something?

Thanks

no i tore my acl in a football game and then went and played a whole half.. When u tear something normally u get il to no swelling and so it hides itself.did ur knee pop or anything when u hyperextended it

you might have a light tear, but nothing major. Ice and ibuprofin will help. Try sleeping with it elevated.

I'm had my patella on both knees lock outside the bone and dislocate. I had to pop them both back in place myself on numerous occasions.

You're probably fine. If the pain lasts more than 2 days, without getting better, i'd see a doctor.

I have been doing research all day and it looks like a sprained my MCL. Trying to get back to sleep was a bitch. Any position where my right leg was on top of my left leg was very uncomfortable.

I didn't hear or feel a pop at all. The pain and swelling have subsided drastically. I haven't needed ibuprofen all day but I will probably take some just for grins.

I guess I got lucky this time.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

Amazing, Just 3 weeks ago I hyper-extended my left elbow in my jiu-jitsu class. Come to find out I had a chip fracture and some bruised tendons.

The guy "didn't feel" me tapping and kept going on an arm bar.

Doc told me to stay off it for 30 days. Well last week I went back into class and my instructor completely forgot about my arm. He was showing the class a move on me and did the same thing to my elbow again. So it looks like I'm going to be out for a little while longer this time.. :(

I hope yours get better soon and you can continue with your classes soon. I wish I could!

I don't even feel the injury today! But she made me promise not to go back to class until Monday anyway...

You would definitely know if it was a tear. I don't even know what you would call my injury, but back in highschool I had a guy put his shoulder into my knee during a football game and my foot was planted. The back of my knee was messed up for around 3 weeks, I could still walk but any real strain like running was just about impossible.

Just take care of it like everyone else said and you'll be fine in 2-3 weeks

Where I went with Steve was basically wanting to be able to defend myself in your everyday street encounter and I feel that I accomplished that with a mix of basic stand up technique and ground fighting. Where I am training now is strictly grappling which is where I have always struggled. A lot of these guys have been doing this for years and can pretty much have their way with me. I seem to stalemate a lot with the guys who have about a year. If I keep going three times a week, I will be caught up in no time with all of the small things I picked up from Steve.

I broke my elbow in Tae Kwon Do class (years ago) and didn't know it for 3 months. I just figured the pain would go away....not realizing it was broken. I always felt like a retard for not knowing. Nice to know I'm not the only one.
