Here's a pic of me before I started lifting solid...

And the second pic is one month later. I've yet to add any cardio or strict diet to the mix, just been lifting and eating a mainly protein based diet. Your comments are welcome, I know I'm a fat ass. ;)

Definately, what time do you usually go. I like working out midday, about 3 oclock, but I work out by myself most of the time with dumb bells. I'd really like to hit a chest day with someone else there, so i can do some decent barbell workout.

I put 'em side-by-side and there's some really good growth there. Your neck is what stands out the most. Keep it up Matt, you'll be livin' it up in Cancun.;)

Usually not until later, like 6:30 to 7:30. Maybe one night when you are at work late we can meet up.

thats a good deal of progress for one month. when you add the cardio, you are gonna really shed some fat. you mention no real diet so far. would you mind elaborating on that?? p.s. thanks for the buckmark .22, it has become my new favorite pistol.

For the first month, i was pretty much on a high protein, low carb diet. And any carbs I did take in were complex. Pretty much 300grams of protein a day.

This week i've added cardio 3 days a week, and i'm eating a more balanced diet of 30percent carbs, 40percent protein, and 30 percent fat.

I'll add cardio each week, til i'm at 5 days 30-45 minutes a day. Since I'm on a muscle building cycle right now, I can't really diet down. I need all the food I can get to help build.

I'm curious as to why you are doing 30% fat? I think that most people recommend the 40/40/20 diet.

Great progress by the way!

The Big Matt

most recommend the 30/40/30 with the 40 being carbs, but i'm swapping carbs for protein.

and many recommend the 40/40/20. I'm a firm believer that a balance is more effective, and the only reason I added more protein vs more carbs, is simply the fact that in this stage of building, protein is more important.

Remember matt, if you really want to see some weight loss you need to focus on calories.. mainly more out than in. really trim back your overall calorie intake.

Jordon, I know, but right now I'm on a strict muscle/strength growth for 4 more weeks. So I need all the calories/protein i can get. By week 9, i'll get to dieting with a strict calorie based diet, probably 1500/day. But til then, it's eat, eat, eat

matt, you should actually try to get your BF% down a good ways before trying to bulk.

I've lost 60 pounds from my heaviest, and i really wanted to bulk up a little before I went the extra mile and started really trying to cut the fat down. I felt like I had lost some muscle mass in the 60 pounds, so right now, I was more worried about getting bigger.

Besides, everyone else I've talked to said to bulk before cutting, as more lean muscle, burns more calories.

just try to eat pretty clean so you don't add fat to what you've got... I agree that losing fat is easier w/ some more musle on you...

1500kcal is very little, you will probably be losing a lot of that hard earned muscle. Start counting your calories now so you will have a baseline to go with when you start cutting fat. I'd probably start at somewhere around 2500-2800 kilocalories and go from there.

You can still look like you are gaining plenty of bulk, even while dropping weight. Mainly because you can gain a ton of muscle tone. IMO the key is to lift nice and heavy.

That's the only way I lift Al.

I do one warmup set, then 3-4 sets of 5, heavy
