ok. I was a power lifter in high school. and i miss it. im not wanting to get back into competition but i am going to start lifting again. One of my main goals is to add mass and size. I weigh about 120. what do i need to do to put on mass. I was taking creatine and protein and i put on about 5 pounds in 2 weeks. However, i developed a kidney stone in this time.......i think it was partially due to the powdered protein mix i was taking. can anyone verify that? definately a pain im not interested in going through again. anyone else have any suggestions?

it was definately the protein, and lack of water.

I very protein rich diet causes excessive uric acid production, and this ends up causing kidney stones and gout, which is stored uric acid in the joints.

Just increase your water intake, and you should be fine.

As far as mass, you have to eat and lift, that's about it, unless you want to go nonlegal routes, and i'm sure there will be tons of people who jump in here telling you to just shoot up with steroids. If that is the route you choose, be careful, and research online, and off, as well as talk to plenty of people who have or are doing them.

i'll end the roids talk right now. i am in no way interested in injections. i am very healthy, i am toned, i would just like some size. if i can't do it naturally then i am in no way interested.........

i figured that the protein was the cause. i dont remember what my water intake was like

I might go back to it at half the dose, and double the water and see what happens. ever since i had the stone, i have cut SODA out of my diet completely. I strictly drink water and fruit juices now. thanks for the input.....

got any input on energy? I enjoy working out but i am typically lacking energy. I take a multi vitamin as well as a B complex at the moment.....again thanks for the help

If you're looking for an energy increase, a good ECA stack is probably your best bet, but good luck finding ephedra. Try a ripped fuel or something like that, and see if you like it. I personally don't like either of the above.

That's going the way of the steroids there and he wanted to stay natural. I would not take creatine (which he says he is taking) and caffeine/ephedra at the same time.

the water thing....

Someone once told me that their dad who was a Dr. said that if you drink plenty of water with your increased protein intake you will be ok. You have to haev enough water there to get that stuff out. Also, if you are takign creatine you need more water just to satisfy that too!

No, it has too many dangerous side-effects, especially when stacked with aspirin and caffeine. Even OTC medicines now list the active ingredient as pseudo-ephedrine (it has the same effects on me, good and bad, so I have stopped taking any congestion medication containing it). You might get ephedrine with a presciption if you have asthma.

Is it still on the shelves? Usually people sell it UTC when they know it is illegal. Does the convinience store have a pharmacy? If not, then the store keeper might be just ignorant and thinks it's still legal.

All the Tiger marts I have been to, have it.They all, say the same thing.

It is back on shelves, but you can only make two purchases a day.

Maybe they are wrong, but I have been stocking up in the meantime.

TigerMart = Exxon

I'm sure you have doublechecked the label to make sure it really is ephedra so this one is odd. Ephedra is still a banned dietary supplement and nothing on FDA website suggests otherwise.

http://google.fda.gov/search?restrict=&q=ephedra&site=FDA&output=xml_no_dtd&as=GO&client=FDA&access=p&lr=&ip=192.100.104.18&proxystylesheet=FDA&getfields=*&oe=&sort=date%3AD%3AS%3Ad1

If that really is ephedra in the bottle, Exxon is asking for trouble.

I'm wondering if maybe it's a marketing thing. Maybe Ephedra is still legal for sale as a bronchiodialator for Asthma patients, and that's how they can get away with it. It's most likely ignprance though.

I found an explanation for it. It's sold as OTC drug, not as dietary supplement.
