Can't get internet connection

I recently movede and changed my internet connection from Comcast to SBC. It connected once via the SBC dsl, but now won't connect. I know the connection is good because the laptop works. So it must be something with my computer. Any ideas on what I should look at??

Could be that you need to reset the IP Address

Click Start, Run, open: cmd (click ok)

This will open a DOS window

On the command line type: ipconfig / release (hit the enter key)
ipconfig/ renew (hit the enter key)

May not fix the problem... but it's worth a try

Ok now that I figured out what happened the fist time(someone never installed the software) I have a new problem.
The computer says it can't find the modem. I know the modem is hooked up right because it works on the laptop.
Any ideas??

I went through this exact thing today. I called the sbc...dsl people and this is what fixed mine......

they had me go to control panel. Right click on "Local Area Connection and enter "connect"

Also........ the broad band section...... same thing. Right click on DSL Connection and click on connect. Fixed it in less than 2 minutes
