I've had 7 jap bikes, a ZX10r being my most recent, and im ready to Italian. Im looking at the ducs right now, and see that the 749's are bit more prominant right now around the state and was wondering, do you think you'd regret getting a 749s power wise vs a 999s?

If you have the money spring for the 999 those things are bad ass, and they hold their value real well. Either way you go, its a duc, I dont think anyones gonna hate on it.

If your worried about power and money is the deciding factor, you could get the 916 or the 996, they are about the same price as the newer 748's and 749's. Those look a little better in my opinion anyway. I just haven't caught on to the new look yet.
The 7's are a great bike, and have plenty of power for the street. If I was to buy one, it would be an older 748. I just love that look and the sound of that twin :D
Either way you will have a nice ride with a ducati.

depends what you are going for. both are very uncomfortable. i had an 04 749 and it handled like no one else's business but it was not fast by any means. and it was heavy. i loved looking at the bike, it was absolutely beautiful but unless I had money towaste I would probably not get another. I would get a mv agusta. BUT, if you are stuck on the duc and can spend the extra, I'd go with the 999s for power and handling.

I agree with both you gues being I like the older 748's, but wouldn't spend the money unless I had it to waste

I rode a 998S a few years ago and that bike was a torture rack to ride on.I didnt come away real impressed with the power either. They look pimp thats for sure but they are too one dimensional IMO
I would think the new 600's would run from a 749 on the straights

eh..not necisarily, would need a more exact compro, but I'd feel fairly comfotable laying a good sized bet down that the same rider could make faster straightline times AND lap times on a modern japanese 600 vs. 748/9

I think I'd regret getting any V-twin sportbike that costs more then $30k. I can get a decent car for that and still have my Jap sportbike and wipe the floor with most ducs with similarly experienced riders

well...it was faster than my honda f2 :p but my 2000 R6 felt faster and my 04 daytona feels a lot faster.

just IMO, but i think it is the most beautiful bike made, second being the agusta.

I'd love to see both face to face just for comparisons :D
