Everyone is going to give their opinions but it's all personal preference and how much is your skull worth to you. Have fun.

Yup. I have a Shoei RF1000 and paid about $340. I didn't think it was too bad a price as far as my head was concerned. I think they make cheaper models too, so maybe you can look into one of those as an option.

Shoei does make a good product. I still rock my 2 yr old RF-900.

Different helmets fit differently. You need to try a few out and see how they fit your head. My old Shoei fit me loose. My Arai Signet in the same size fit me like a glove. My new HJC is a little loose.

Shoei, Arai, OGK, AGV
I think the Shoei X-11 fits my head best. I like Arai's, but they use a 20 year-old design for the shield mechanism. Consequently, the shield is a PITA to take off unlike the Shoei helmets.

Why does everyone say that about the Arai shields? Mine never bothered me, and i could do it in a sec.

Well...I think the helmet I had was defected. All the small, plastic levers constantly fell out of sideplates. It was a PITA to mess with. Perhaps not all of the Arai helmets are like this one.

have a shoei tz-1 or something like that its the wwII troy lee design. i have also had an hjc. nothing wrong with either i can tell. all the helmets that are snell and dot certified will offer the same protection more or less. the difference your paying for is the weight, shape, liner, and designs or paint. hope that helps.
god bless.

I love the Arai's but the shield mechanism is a PITA! I've broken one of the side pods already to and had to replace it.

I agree with Elvis...just make sure it has a current Snell sticker on it and your safe...then just figure out which of those you like and fits well. I also like something with a turbulence generator on it so your head doesn't get sucked back when you sit up. I have a $100 solid black HJC CL-11 that I love! Only helmet I ever had that I liked better was my $700 Arai Schwanz replica that I destroyed ripping a 2nd gear wheelie through a construction area in shorts and a t-shirt. Riped the visor clean off, skinned the helmet good and cracked it. Right shoe and sock were in the back wheel, some guy brought me the left shoe and I was rashed prety good, but my head...absolutely perfect! Not even a headache...well...'till I took a good look at my bike and by body, but that was stress induced! What a dumn-ASS!!! :o

Arai, AGV, Shoei, and Suomy are the 4 that come to mind when you ask what are "good" helmets. But any composite helmet will do a good job at saving your ass so just pick what fits and make sure its NOT thermoplastic.

I didn't know they made a helmet that specifically saves your ass.

I have an HJC now. Its a great helmet. The fit is good, but you pay for quality. It looks great, but it scratches a little easier then others and the lenses arent the best. but its still a very strong helmet made of carbon composites. HJC AC-11 if you are on a budget

You know I was thinking about the same thing on my HJC, it scratches the paint real easy :(

I recently bought one of the new ICON helmets. I have two Shoei RF-900's and they never fit as good as this ICON. Plano Honda carries the ICON line.

How good was their selection? I'd much rather buy mine from a store right around the corner than ordering it online. I also forgot if I need a M or L from ICON so I need to try them on. My Shoei is a L.

I love my Arai! But I banged it on the ground on a low slide and really need to send it in. Fits better than my HJC and I wanna say it vents better. I just hate the shield mechanism :(
