Temp employees?

Has anyone worked thru a temp agency around here? Which ones? How did you like it?

You can find some really good jobs through a temp service. The company i work for hires only through temp services. They use Manpower, They are one of the larger ones and have offices all over.

My girlfriend went through Corestaff and she got a pretty decent job offer within a week of contacting them and the company already wants to hire her full time 1/2 way through her 90 days temp to hire. They seem to have good clients.

Okay since I have not been able to get hired by a car dealership. :o I am going to go through a temp service and see what I can find that way.

I have never been into a temp service so I might be asking some dumb questions here. But I would like to have an idea of the services

Do you get paid by the firm that hires you or through the temp service? Is it set by hours or salary? Do you get paid by the week, biweekly, or ???...?

You should get paid by the agency. Probably weekly by the hour.

I talked to Manpower today. She asked what type of work I did. I explained that I had worked in Sales for the last 6-7 years but I would like to get a job in another field and would like to work through a temp agency to see what I could find. She replied that I might look elsewhere because "we mainly do clerical and light assembly line temp jobs"?? So I guess she was saying that IF I choose to set up with them I would not be likley to get a call?

Would someone that has been through a temp agency please explain how this whole temp agency thing works? :confused: I was under the impression that pretty much anyone (clean record and could pass drug test) could get set-up with the temp agency and get some kind of work. I guess here they are "specialized" and do not do general employement?? :confused: The only temp agency I ever knew anyone that worked for was in Amarillo. There you go in and fill out a general application and they call you for pretty much any job that comes up, be it industrial, store stocking, inventory, or whatever.

I would look in the phone book and just call some of the temp/employment agencies and talk to them before I wasted my gas driving around to different ones getting the same answer.

I was under the same impression as you about them. I thought as long as you had a pulse and could pass a UA and background check you could work.

Just call around, you will find somthing.

I am going to keep looking. I want something to do to keep me busy while my wife is in school. But I am hoping to find something flexible enough that will allow me to travel with her when she does her clinical rotations at the end of this month (3 days) and 3 weeks during the summer.

If anyone knows of a part time or flexible job west of I-35W please let me know. I will do pretty much anything (deliver parts, mailroom, paperwork, warehouse, sweep floors, part time sales, answer phones or anything along those lines) :o

I'm in the same boat went and told the same thing as you. The biggest problem I'm having is lack of job history only thing I have is a few summer jobs and about a two year job through my unlces machine shop. Seems like its impossible to get into the same kind of work around here getting to the point where I dont care what it is along as it has a paycheck.

I know what you mean by "don't care what it is". I thought it would be easy to get on at a car dealership because I had a strong work history. But every one seemed to think I was just looking for something so I could get a paycheck until I found something better. :o Heck I would work for darn near min. wage just to be able to work around cars. I plan to work at a dealership once my wife gets out of school so I have been trying to get on at one now so I can gain knowledge of what path I want to take. I think I might have made a mistake telling the dealerships that I would work part time or full time. I think they just want full time. But I am going to keep applying and see if I can get on somewhere. I might even try to get on at an auto parts store to deliver parts.

There is this good one that got me hired at Southwest Airlines wich their name is LINK Staffing. They will call you for just about anything. I worked moving rental cars and also did some NAPA Delivery then they finally sent me here to a warehouse working for Southwest. I've been here for 5 years now. They have a website so you can do a search on it and they you can find a location near you. GOOD LUCK!

I called LINK and they said it takes about 2 hours (or a little longer) to get set-up with them. I don't mind spending the time at all. But what do you do that takes 2 hours???? I just would like to have a heads up of what I am going to have to do! :)

That two hours is to weed out the people that are not really interested. Sort of a litmus test like managers do when they make you wait in a room for an hour and then tell you they filled the position or they will call you sometime soon.

Most agencies (most is keyword) specialize in certain fields with key accounts. They look for jobs in that arean so they can serivce that industry. I know we deal with Express and they are just a body shop for telemarketers and assembly workers. The less English you speak the better.

I worked at adecco they can hook you up pretty fast. there is one in plano that does mostly data entry and office jobs and there is one in lewisville that contracts out to warehouses
