I quit taking protein at the beginning of the semester (had to become a cheap skate for the time being), I'm eating less due to time, and I've lost ~10 lbs since then. Even so, I am lifting just as much if not more than I was before in everything I do at the gym. One of you biology types care to explain?

It's all in your specific diet. You are still getting enough protein to grow without the shakes and eating less so the fat is coming off, but not so much less as to catobolize muscle. I've dropped 20lbs of fat in the last two months and actually gained a couple reps while doing it simply by keeping the protein up, cutting all fats, an eating minimal carbs.

as for me, taking protein whey powder shakes as well, i might have to work out some more seems like im gaining some weight, and it's not muscle/bulk, even though i have cut back on carbs, sugars, breads,
been eating healthy and drinking nothing but tons of iced water all day everyday.
i guess i need to work out more and get a good routine together, i have been lifting alot more lately with ease though.
any suggestions on certain routines as well as what foods are good to eat throughout the day? i kinda want to stop taking the protein whey just to see if that will help drop some of the gained weight? what to do

I doubt it's the shakes, they are a good low-fat/carb source of protein. Take a look at your overall number of calories for the day, even eating healthy can make you fat if you eat too much.
It's still not a bad idea to drink as few shakes as possible though, as natural food sources are better for you. Chicken breast, tuna, and egg-whites are some of the better choices, but watch the tuna, large amounts will introduce unhealthy amounts of mercury into the bloodstream.

well the shakes i have been drinking are powder that im mixing up with 10oz of 2% milk.
and what i eat is a grilled chicken salad for lunch
drink plenty of water all day.(nothing but water as a matter of fact)
then later on @ like 6-7pm, i eat some tuna and a few crackers and drink some plenty of water....
i dont work out very heavily, just run a bit, and do some lifting on the bench...
Drop to skim milk and check to make sure those mixes are not high carb ones intended to be weight gainers with lots of sugars.

i started to mix it with water instead, with one egg white, I actually like it a lil better, (would the egg white be ok to drink it with?)
i actually have noticed that i have tons more energy throughout the day, and have been lifting a bit more with ease.
and i haven't weighed myself in the past few weeks, i know weight has not much to do with it, but i am getting more and more into weight lifting so i guess the weight wont matter anymore.
what else is good other than like tuna and chicken?
