Hey all,
I was looking for suggestions on where to go to haul ass...legally. Basically, I don't want to take the wifey too fast on the street, (cops, other people...etc), the 1/4 mile is too short for as fast as I'd like to go.
Any ideas or am I pretty much limited to taking 75 south and lettin' loose?
Take care

Seem pretty good, but I don't think it allows a partner to ride. Also, I'm not sure I want to drive fast and turn left in the Mustang. Not sure how she'd handle at 130+ :) I am kind of looking for something like those salt flats where they run the world speed records and all.
I will say, that this does look fun nonetheless. It would be interesting to go for the class, a few laps and to see the other cars. Did you ever go to it?
Take care and thanks

In case anyone cares, the gig at TMS allows a passenger - I was able to verify that. Have not heard from the texasmile.com folks. I'm thinking there will be some sweet cars at TMS for the events.
Take care

How long of ride are you looking to achieve? What kinds of "go fast"? Are you looking for straight line stuff or turning?

Prefer straight line, but some turns would be nice. I'd just like to do a couple of runs where I can sustain 120+, but no more then 140ish....get out and let the wifey have a go.
Thanks,

Then the mile run is your best bet. Unless you really want to get into high speed racing. If that's what you're into look into the Silver State Classic, run a search on google. The close off a section of highway for a few days and let people have a go at it. Better make sure your ride is up to it though!!! I was able to sustain an hour at 100 mph from DFW to El Paso this summer and had to replace UCA bushings, rear fluid, etc etc etc. That sucker GET'S HOT BACK THERE. (Obviously this wasn't legal and I don't advise any illegal actions be attempted. ;) ) However, I can tell you the Mustang can't handle those kinds of speeds for any kind of sustained time. Fun? Yup. Do it again. Probably. But not for long. ;) IF you want something a bit more tame than that high speed auto crosses and road course action is probably your best bet.

Hmmm, infield road course is not all that eventful when I did it on the panoz cars....we did not go on the oval. This event looks cool but.......damn, I might have to do this one.
If it allows passengers, I will sell rides to pay for the event! Any takers...? I need to finish off this set of Hoosiers anyway so I can requisition some street/wet rolling stock.... ;)

Yeah, I just want to have some fun. I don't like to screw around with people in the car. However, doing it at a track allows for on-site emergency crews and it is legal with no other cars around. I don't have any plans to circle track race my relatively stock Mustang GT. :) I'd get bitched by those exotics and stuff. :) Just wanna go raise some hell with my wife and check out the festivities.
I doubt you'd be hitting 130mph at TMS! They do allow passengers though and I was hitting 110-115 mph in my 01' SS Camaro. As for illegally doing that kind of speed the Dallas Tollway works nice at around 4am.

I dunno. Just cause an SS couldn't do it doesn't mean any other well prep'd car can't. Again, illegally.... hit I10 between El Paso and "no where" 130 is a joke. Not that it matters.... BP, what's your real name? (Sorry, I don't frequent DFWstangs often enough to recognize you.) I doubt I've ever met you and don't doubt your word but to wave off 130 @ TMS in a wholesales fashion is pretty "stout". :)

if your looking to do the oval, i have a link up on the thread from dfwls1 about the laps for charity in may, you pay $25 to do 3 laps around the track, i did it once with a friend in his camaro, you can get some good speeds on there.

blue302stang - That is a good deal - 25 for 3 laps. I'll just be returning from overseas in May, so that is a bit early. Gotta hit some training and get sqaured away. Thank you for the information though!

Cool. I am sooo there in September. 3 laps for me and 3 for the wifey. I don't care if I have to take my Trailblazer...if the Stang is broke. :)
Thanks again

Fun event. Aggie97, a few others, and I did this last year. It REALLY impressed me on what the NASCAR, IRL, Truck, drivers see during their laps. I only hit 120 once and was already scared shitless, after turn 4, into the "oval", and running out of track. However, be advised that TMS DOES add trucks to the field and try to keep the speeds down. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to get 8 or 10 equally prepped cars and drivers together to hit the track at the same time. If you all have radio communications too that would be the SHI'ITE!!
