Little help w/ .avi files?

I am trying to play an .avi file and when WMP opens it displayes this message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found.
Where do I go from here?

I tried to render it yet now it's saying it needs DIV3/DIV4 from the 4CC window and DivX 3 Fast-Motion in the name window.

I'm completely ignant when it comes to this type of shit. Any help would be appreciated.

If you right click on the file in the playlist after it shows the error, it'll be orange. Right click on it and hit help, or more or something. Follow the link and download the software.
