I have been trying to burn a music cd on my new computer. The drive is a DVD+RW/CD-RW drive. I have had no problem burning dvd's but when I try to burn a music cd I get this message:

Recording Error
Recording errors often occur when the media contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.

If you are getting recording errors:

Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer's disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
Dry the disc completely

I have tried 3 different brands of CD-R's and 3 different programs, but it still keeps on spitting out the cd with the same message. Any ideas? TIA.

I also saw this:

Recordings Fail
Disc recording is a resource-sensitive process. Having other applications running while recording to a disc can deprive your system of required resources and cause the recording to fail.

Most of these errors can be avoided by following these steps:

Enable Direct Memory Access (DMA) on your system. See your operating system's documentation for information on enabling DMA.

Quit other applications during the recording process

Any one know how to check the DMA? What is the OS documentation?

XP home edition. I have used RecordNow!, Musicmatch and DeepBurner with no success.

If you have access, you might want to try a CD creator like Roxio or Nero. They work for me. I have Windows XP home edition on my machine. My writer is a DVD + RW which does both CD's and DVD's. When you do a cold boot up go into your BIOS setup. In there you should have a line in your advanced setup to enable UDMA for your HD. :)
