Noob kind of question about program cracks

I recently accuired some programs off of Soulseek and before I install, I was wondering what exactly do these cracks do? Also is there any files I would need to delete before I plug back into the internet?
Like I said, Its a noob question, but this is some stuff I just trying to figure out.
