I have a Gateway 4538GZ Storm Notebook running Windows XP. I Just recieved this on the 21. I used my external hard drive on my old computer and loaded all of my old files into it then connected it to my notebook. It added it like there was no problem but when I go to my Computer the external drive is not there. I looked in device manager and it was there. But it was not in Drive manager?
I have been on the phone with tech support for Iomega for over 3 hours now and still nothing. I reformatted the hard drive on the Laptop still nothing. I checked to make sure the USB port was good and it worked fine with my digital camera. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Bob

It should show up as a local drive, right click the start button and explore windows. Should be the highest letter.

You may have to go back into Drive Manager (mangler) and assign it a drive letter.

laptop might not have enough power to power it, does the drive have a seperate power supply?

I've got a Dell desktop which doesn't have room inside for a 2nd hd, so I bought a case for it at fry's. It's USB with an external power supply. I also have Windows XP. The way mine works is I have to turn on the external hd after I boot up. Otherwise it doesn't recognize the hd. I would assume yours does have an on/off switch. Give it a shot. :)

Is the usb port USB2 or 1.1?

I have 2.0 on my computer, but it shouldn't make any difference- 2.0 is compatible with 1.1 only faster transfer rate. Remember, the external drive is only a backup- it will not work as a primary drive. :)

for some reason I plugged an external usb hub to the laptop and then connected the hard drive to it and it worked !!!! It was a 1.1 hub but it worked
