a properly built ported enclosure will sound better and be louder.

ive heard alot of bandpasses . they sound awsome . my bandpass box(built by cortoys) with a shitty sony xsplode 12" hot lots harder than a custom built ported box .

any ways i have one that fits one 12 . sounds really good . really nice box . ill take 55obo for it . carpeted and every thing . so far ive had a mtx . fosgate and a xplode in it and they all have sounded great !

remeber opionons are like ass holes and every one has one . just like a ford guy over a chevy guy .

dude, you don't know your head from your ass.

Go see how many bandpass boxes are at your next local sound off, then see how many of the people using them are hitting 140db +, you can hit 145 with 2 relatively inexpensive 12s in a SEALED enclosure, but I've never seen that happen with a bandpass.
basically, bandpasses suck, unless they are super specifically designed for a sub that is designed to function well in one.

Why have you been changing woofers so much? If you don't have a subsonic filter on your cross over then I'm guessing you're melting voicecoils or blowing the cones apart. Another problem with bandpass boxes is that they mask distortion, meaning you could have your amp clipping it's ass off and the bass might sound the same. They are very efficent if designed properly up to a certain volume level and can sound okay in certain frequencies but once you try to add more power for more spl they aren't worth a damn. Like Adam said, noone uses them for competition. The SQ guys usually go ported and the smaller spl guys have ported boxes. The big dogs usually have sealed or a vented wall but when you have 100k watts you aren't looking for efficiency or sound quality, just pure spl.

Personally I've had good success with the Hooker brand pre fabbed boxes. They have square ports on each side, come with nice connectors on top and are very solidly built. You can get one for 2 12s for around $150. In my Talon with the cheapest Diamond Audio woofers and an ancient Kicker amp (ZR360) it's been good for 149.5db on two different Audio Control meters and I think 146 on the termlab.
