View Full Version : Anyone here ever sold motorcycles?

I was just offered a chance at a job working for a local motorcycle dealer, and I'm trying to find out if it's better than what I've got.
How much money is in it?
I'm an experienced commission sales person, so the pay structure wouldn't be anything too far off of what I'm used to.
Thanks in advance

u would prolly do well in it yes, but there is a lot of financial shit you need to know also having to do with credit. if you got that down, id say go for it. you would make much more money at that than at cartoys.

that's what i've been hearing... From what i gather pulling in 30k shouldn't be out of the question at all, which would be significantly more than i'm currently making.

Doesn't Kevin sell bikes in East Texas?

I know he works at a dealership, but i'm not sure of his position, maybe he will chime in, because I'm actually considering going for this, if not because i'd enjoy, then at least for the money, likely both.

Arlington Motorsport Suzuki treats their employees like crap....I know first hand :) Just ask the people around you when you go to check it out, employees are the first to tell ANYONE if their boss is a duche.
fuck i just saw you say 30gs is way more than you get, then you need to go somewhere else! Bike sales could get you that money, but you need to make sure what kinda pay your getting cause slow times lead to NO money!

shit, Nick, you're telling me!
I need to make more money, but there aren't alot of ways that I can figure to legally make more than ~22k at 21 years old with 0 college (which i'll be looking to change that).

Go work for the post office. Any internet co will start you at 10 bucks an hr. Also, you can make way more at UPS, but those are all jobs that require work.

if you dont mind gettin dirty, try something like running cable, satelite, phones or security. or even sales for security at my company makes around 50k a year. i do security and make 50k+ a year being pretty lazy but i have been there for 9 years.

It all depends on how they pay you. I have friends working for a Honda/Yamaha dealership about 30 mins away from here who make ~$60k a year but the Yamaha shop I used to work at here in town doesn't let their salesmen make more than ~$25k a year. If you can get into a good dealership that will pay you good percentages, let you have the incentives, and will let you make your own deals, then go for it. :)

I'm not really a fan of Harley's, but my dad works at a Harley dealer as a salesman and makes 50k a year. This is at a small dealership in a small town!!
Damn good money around here!!!!

I aim to oblige.
PS. Take the job with higher prices. If you earn by commision then you know that higher prices mean more $$ for you. You'd earn more by selling bikes. But learn how to save. I mean save alot. Because things do get slow. Try to put back 10% of your paycheck. If you make 900/wk then you should be throwing back 360/mo.

Not to change the subject or anything but have you thought about car sales? I started selling cars when I was 19 and I made 40K the first year! I was selling new cars but you will always make more selling used if you can get in there. I am now a manager at that same dealership and make a good living for 25 years of age. I would love to sell bikes but I am just afraid that I would go ape shit on all the tire kickers that come in there all the time. Or even worse the 16 year old kids that want to finance the R1!!
Just my .02 if you do decide to sell bikes let us all know where so we can get the hook-up!

I've thought about selling cars, but I have to keep interested in something to do it.
<-- Huge car audio fan, so selling audio works, because I can maintain interest.
<-- Huge motorcycle fan......
oh, and you guys know good and damned well that if I get a job a dealership, I'll do what I can to hook it up.....
