I need to get my title for Texas. The bike is currently titled for OK. What do I need to do?
Anyone know? I don't have a receipt (per say) for this bike. Only the OK title that was signed by the previous owner.
Also. The Title has already been notarized and has the stamp on it from Oklahoma. Can I just write in any old price in the "Actual Selling Price" box on the title? That'll make my taxes lower won't it?

I had to register a truck that was from NM, wasn't any big deal, just have the normal stuff like insurance/inspection/application/title... Guess bikes are the same, dunno

So I can get insurance for the bike before I have it registered in my name?
And how do I get an inspection?

i've done it before, insurance company wanted VIN on bike and other contact info, never ask about title or need a copy of it. I've used state farm and strictly cycles.

Insurance is easy. Just get a quote from anyone. They don't care who's name on the title. Then take to DPS and get put in your name. Put any amount in there. They do not check plus it will lower your tax. Once you have insurance then you can get an inspection. They only do safety inspection on bikes and it is only $12.50
I would only put liability on it if I were you. Plus insurance is the law. Mine are insured through Allstate. Went from Progressive to Allstate and only pay $50 every six months for both bikes. Progressive was closer to $400 every six months.

Shouldn't be a big deal. Get the insurance first than take it to the title office with what you have and have them look over your paperwork. If anything is missing the will tell you. There is a place off of Main St. just South of Camp Wisdom that does motorcycle inspections. Don't know of any other place on the South Side that can do it besides a dealership.
<---- Fixing to get his second motorcycle titled :D

Isn't that thing still in my name.
BTW you will need insurance on it before they will transfer the title.

Cool, thanks. This Friday or next week, I will call around and get liablity. I hadn't planned on getting full coverage. Once I get the ins. I'll go to the tax office and see what else I need. I think I'll put $500 in the amount box. If they happen to ask why so little, I'll tell them that it was part of a trade for car equipment. (which it was) :D

They will look at it long enough to calculate how much tax you owe and that is it trust me. I think I told them $1500 for the 03 R6 back in 2003 when I got it. They won't even question it.

I just had to do this yesterday...at least for Collin County i had to just go to the Tax Assesor Collectors office and it was about a 20 minute ordeal. Tell them you paid like $500 for the bike so you dont have to pay a bunch of tax for it.
also, if you put that you did an even trade for the bike they only tax you $5. that's that i did with my 900rr that i traded for on here.

No, not yet. My car and house is with Farmers Ins. so I'm giving them a shot because of a multiple vehicle and house discounts, I can get.

Check it. How can I get insurance when the bike isn't even registered in my name? And how do I get the title switched when I don't have ins. yet? So are you guys absolutely sure that I need the ins. first before I can get the title switched?

go get insured then fill out the app for the tx title. lemme know if you need someone to hold your hand while doing this. mine is through progressive, even though i have 3 vehicles and my home through farmers or state farm. i always get that confused. :D
god bless.

BTW Farmer's quoted $165/year so maybe that Geico quote is also yearly.

mine is 125 a year through progressive for liability. yours should be cheaper since my bike is so much cooler than yours. ;)

My bike is a true performance bike though, so it's more expensive. Plus, I haven't taken the MSF course yet plus I think they dinged me for being a squid and I think they saw me on your bike last night. Something about an "uncool" penalty.

Farmer's because my house and cars are with them. I get a discount on my home ins. premium if I added another vehicle.
