When I lived out in Cali I could hit the 193-196 range on my little 750cc bike. Well it was a ZX-7RR :)
After doing that a couple of times I realized that having the front wheel "skipping" or "floating" across the pavement wasnt as fun as dragging the peg's through twisties up and down Mt. Palomar. :) I changed out the gear ratio and she would only do about 170 or so afterwards.

The shiftlight on my bike comes on at 12k, thats where its set right now. I saw it come on and tried to shift to 7th the other night. Not sure how fast that was in reality but I've never gone that fast before. Its weird, and I'm sure some of you other guys that have gone that fast on a bike before can relate; its like my eyeballs started shaking. I was tucked way in, like from 100 on up, and even then my vision started to shake and bounce around. Luckiley, the highway had reflective dividers. I think thats all that kept me straightened up. I'm not sure what these bikes will do but I didn't have the nerve to even look, other things to keep aware of!

Nice setup! Question, with a lowered fast setup like that, do you feel like you can let her pretty much wide open off the light, or do you bring it to like 3/4 and then all in at the shift point or what? Reason I ask is, the gearing on my 04 R1 seems to deal REALLY well with heavy throttle in 1st gear. My 02 was nothing like it, it'd jump at 4k or so RPM, but the 04 seems to feather in the power gradually, and only at the 8-10k mark does it start feeling 'really' light in the front. For that reason, I feel pretty confident when I gas it off the line. Was just curious if a drag bike was 'similar' or if it had its on manurisims (sp?) that required delicate throttle input when you launch.
Thanks!

those bikes are a little more gas it and go, because of the wheelie bars.
yeah, the 04 R1's don't want to come up too hard until you get into the power band which is WAY up there.

I've experienced that. From what I read in TOTWII it's because we're holding onto the bars too tight, which transfers the shakes from the bike to bodies which gives us "bobble-head". And also it's just because the air at those speeds is crazy harsh.

Its really according to how nice of a bike you want to have.
Me, I am a poor boy. I bought the roller for $2500 and then completely re worked it. I have about $7500/$8000 in the whole bike.
Benji just bought a new chassis for a Busa powered T/G he is building. He will have about $9000 in it(no motor/electronics/nitrous ect)With the complete bike running closer to $15000-16000.
Both will do the deal, both will look nice, but his will just be a far superior bike to mine even if they run the same numbers.

Gonna run an auto in that busa T/G? Whats the motor setup? I like the new lightweight 1430 pistons they got for the busas. stupid light....
He decided on a 1-2 Auto. The way the trans is laid out your choices are 1-2 or 1 through 4. It would take some different controller to run the 1-4 so...
He bought the 1397 block and pistons, 13.5 to one.Really mild motor with an intake cam on the exhaust side, Nitrous, ect. He's running some Mega-Trons.
I wanted him to R&D the stroker stuff in case I wanted to go that way next time..
You know the drill, let him spend the money to find out what works best.
Sorry f#cker, aint I...
If his comes out good and is reliable (I totally expect it to be) Then I might build one next season with a better head and a stroker crank.

come on guys, If you know me, then you know good and damn well that i don't believe that riding those things is easy.
but i am saying, is that the bikes are so dialed in, and so well setup, that keeping the front end down is a little easier than a streetbike, that and being an automatic.
as opposed to taking a stock wheelbase streetbike, with stockish gearing and trying to go fast..
trust me, I'm not implying that it's easy, and i can only imagine the feelings that go along with a 5.xx 1/8 mile pass, much less any faster.
<--- Can't ride for shit, and i'll be the first person to admit it.
What kind of times do you think Benji can run with that new Busa setup?
He better pill it up and run some 4's or I am going to hand him his @$$.
Just kidding. The Busa motor makes a lot of HP on its own and knowing Benji, He wont rest til he's faster than me. That motor combo has a lot of potential.
Plus his bike will be lighter than anything we have run before.
I might be a bit jumpy on the subject. I have endured a lot of "bar" hatin...
Thing is, most of the time I hear it from people who have never even tried it.
If I lumped you in with those guys, My appologies. ;)
I have said it before, I would be out there on a no-bar ride in a minute, but to be competitive in those classes its just too expensive for me. I am not the kind of person that just wants to ride, I want to compete and I want to win.

I could build you a busa motor to murder everthing. I can garuntee that you can build a motor motor to beat your bro's nitrous 1397. Im thinking of using some of those 225 gram 1429 pistons and a 5mm crank in a new motor....with stock valve head fully done u could make 250rwhp on motor EASY....just imagine what you could be doing with chassis setup if you didnt have any nitrous to worry about. On the other hand, some 1397s and a 5mm crank and some nitrous....well, 235rwhp motor and 150on top of dat, well, can't beat that.
I thought r&d sold 123s for the busa. doesnt matter, Id run a 1-2 if I had a choice anyways. Fuck, imagine what a 1-2 auto would do on my turbo motor. Oh yea, Im stock bore, stock stroke, stock head. Fixing to be stock bore, stock stroke, turbo head :)

They might... We just started getting into these. My thought was to get the 1-2-3-4 and then if I have to kill for 4th... oh well.
Is it against the 60" rules to run the 1-2? It would be nice not to have to unload the chassis early in the run.(not to mention the "Free" e.t.)
Who's doing the Turbo head?
AnotherRedHead
01-18-2005, 03:29 PM
i already got the head from a well known guy on the east coast. You cant run any funky tranny's in 60inch or SBS, this is why they all run the stock 6 spd nos cut R&D version. Shit, I cant even make 2nd gear with my stock tranny without getting it cut with the bike making this much power. I was chopping off my 2nd gear dogs last year I know it, Im just waiting on RnD to tell me I need some new gears too. Lets hope they can take it all outta the cut....Its gonna be nice to have a tranny that shifts everytime, never missin, only cost me 900 bucks for some machine work and an output shaft! See JC I didnt even buy any gears! YET! LOL
Nick
That 1-2 with a billet second and billet output. Seems like he said he bought another billet gear, Maybe third.... I cant remember.
He went with R&D as well... about $1300 worth.
I have one R&D trans and one Gast Trans. They both work great.
I talked to one shootout guy that said they cut their trans for 123 but they still kill the motor on the shift. He said they just did it so the bike would shift no matter what. They were having trouble shifting if the bike was spinning the tire. Made sense.
Did you see what they did to the Texas shootout rules? I guess you can build a 75 inch shootout bike with a 7"slick if your running nitrous. Turbo still has to be 68"
The sixty inch guys are going to run with the "Heavys" Heavys can be longer than 60" But you have to weigh 250lbs.
Better start eatin.

1T down in the rear would 'slightly' encourage a higher top speed, I"m sure the interal work is where the top speed on that bike really comes from. I believe stock F4i's peak out around 158 ACTUAL, who knows that the speedo reads. Nearly a 30MPH topspeed increase on a 600 is pretty impressive if that came from cams/motor work, granted, thats kind of a general-blanket statement; I know nothing of what work was done internally on it :)

I floored my old r1 for a few seconds once going 60mph. I left off as soon as the speedo said 170 which was like 2 blinks of an eye and splattered bug on my visor later.
