Im looking to purchase one or the other and would like input from anyone with any experience of either. The only thing drawing me back from the honda is the kick start, I would preffer to have electric start. How much low end grunt difference is there between the two? Any info is appreciated.

THANKS..

I would have expected you to say "TRX450 or YFZ450" and not the Raptor. It of course depends on what you are going for. I had a Raptor...'04 model and wasn't all that happy with it. The reverse was a pain in the ass to use, the gearing was all whacked out, and it wouldn't corner worth a crap because it sat so high. If you want a serious sport quad, go with either the TRX or YFZ. They sit lower, handle better, and I have met a lot of people that are happy with both (I go to Muenster a lot). By the way, I got dusted pretty bad out there on the sand drags by a guy in a YFZ450 that was also an '04. Sad that he won with 50% less motor(my660 vs. his 450). Just my .02.

He is exactly right. I have an 04 YFZ 450 and a friend of mine has the TRX. I can usually beat him by about 3 or 4 lengths, and mine has a push button starter. Yeah the raptor has more CC's but I can outrun those by about 6 lengths. The YFZ handles better, runs better, and is the easiest to start. That is the one you need. If you just had to choose between the Raptor and the TRX I would choose the TRX.

Im on 25ac. south of Denton and this will be for around the house and some occasional trails. Also have a few creek beds close to the house that Im sure I will play in.. :D The only thing I dont like about the TRX is the fact that it's not available with elec. start. :( I wont be racing it or any super hardcore rideing for that matter.

Well the yammi 450 would rule all in racing my opinion, but for crusing the trails I think the seat which is more of a dirtbike seat would end up making it uncomfortable in the long run. If you want to ride the trails yet still beable to do some racing I'd say get the raptor since it has a pretty big seat on it and would be better for longer runs.

I like the YZF450 but I cant find a good deal anywhere. I have located NEW TRX450R's for $5,499 and I wont have to pay tax because it will be for AG use. ;) <V:p</V:pI definitely want to go with a 4-stroke for the fact of loads of torque. The main reason I posted this thread is because I didn't know how much difference in power I would notice between the TRX and the YFM 660R and do see what everyone’s general opinion was of each.

Well I think in a way you kinda made your own decision since you want electric starting with no kick start and I gave props to the raptor in my post.

Raptor all the way

I have a friend thats about to pick up a brand new raptor here pretty soon last I heard they were going over the paper work to finance. I'm sure he's close to picking it up from the dealer.

Basically I have located both raptors and TRX's for the same price out the door and I have read a few negative things about the raptors and wanted to see if anyone here had encountered the same. BTW: Thanks for your and everyone else's input .

If you had posted this a few weeks ago, there was a local guy trying to sell his '05 YFZ450 for $5k. I could have went and checked it out for you. :o

I no longer have the Raptor I mentioned earlier. I do still have my Utility quad - a Kodiak 450. It serves both rec/work purposes and is great for mud, play, whatever. I DO KNOW that the Raptor was a pain in the ass to ride around in low speed situations. Like I had said earlier, the gearing SUCKED for some reason...it seemed like it just wanted to REV. It really wanted to 'buck' if I wanted to just roll at 5-10 mph. Fine when you gave it gas, but not user friendly in my book. Now, I have never rode the YFZ or TRX, so I can't compare those 2. BTW, I know a guy that works for Stadium Yamaha in Irving if you want to see if he can make a deal for you. Let me know.

Hell my warrior does the same type of bucking thing at low speeds it was worse with the stock sprocket on it then I dropped down a tooth on the front and it still did it but not nearly as bad. I dont think I would consider this a non user friendly thing seeing as how it didnt affect riding around. The only problem I had with it was when I would cruise the pits/camping ground at little sahara in Okla. Of course I did have paddle tires on the back so it was already a bumpy ride.

That is a pretty good price. There is a guy that is going to buy my YFZ 450 on Sunday for $5200. Of course mine is real clean, has low hours, and it has some extras.

A buddy of mine has a trx down the street and ive ridin it a few times its powerful as hell handles really well and about the kick start thing i can start it while sitting down and thats with the HRC kit in it too now.
On the other hand the raptor is electric start and it also turns well but i liked how the honda road better than the raptor anyways hope that helps.
