dont limit yourself just to the f4i, theres other good bikes out there.
Ride the bike before hand. Check the front fork seals for leaks. Go through all the gears, make sure the rotors look good as well as tires. Ask for receipts on oil changes and what not. Most people will keep them when they take good care of there stuff. You can always tell some about the bike just in how clean it is, and the persons personality.

Just like buying anything else used.

Look a few topics down, or even on the next page. Someone brought this exact question up a couple of weeks ago.

There's some pretty good examples in there.

PS: Honda's are slow....... Get a Yamaha!! ;)

wrong.....no brand really "breaks down" anymore then the otherwise you would never see a yammy on the road......reason bikes break down is a persons care of the bike...you take care of it ..it will take care of you ..I have a 03 r6 bought it brand new have almost 17k on it now ....never a problem ....

i would have to agree with that it makes perfect secnce. i know cars are like that if you beat the shit out of them daily then your late on oil changes and such its gona break down i dont know why a bike would be diffrent. ive always really wanted an R6 but iove just heard bad stuff about them and ive always heard honda was very reliable as far as motors go so i was going off that i have to real experiance with bikes obviosly
