Seems like too much cash to drop on a party, doesn't it?

Fuck it, it's not much more than the Bill Clintonay inauguration.

You know I'm hardcore conservative, but seriously, the inauguration is a party. He's already got the job, we're gonna tear it up, so why not help them out? We can prevent running the deficit up by another 40 million by sending it, so why not? Seriously...

It doesnt increase the defecit because it's already earmakred as spent funds.

It's a party we have every 4 years to celebrate our "Americanness," our right to vote without fear of being shot down in a pool of blood, our Consitution, et al.

We've given over a billion as a country....we've done our part, and THEN SOME.

I thought the 40 million was, for the most part, private donations???

Guess it was private funds. And you're right it won't run up the deficit.

Not that it matters, I was just thinking it could go to more use than that. Course it does go back into circulation after the party.

Agreed Cuban could throw out some cash as well. Maybe he could match it...
When he got fined for comments about refferees it was a total of 1.3 million dollars and he matched it $ to $ and gave it to charities in the Dallas area i believe it was foodbanks.Honestly i think he is pretty damn smart, he didnt become a billionaire for no reason.I think in my own opinion we should take care of our own and worry about others after.

OK..here's my proposal... GW scales back the big bash to 20 million or so, sends me an invite to the party since it's my idea, takes the other twenty million, gets Cuban to STFU and match GW's 20 million and waalahhh! 40 million to send to a charity... I really think there is enough funds circulating around the sunami disaster for now... might need a few more later, but for now, let's hold off and see how our money will be used... not stolen, not sqandered, not sent to the fuckin' UN thieves, then if they need a few more bucks, I'm in...

He's entitled to say as he wishes....as am I.

Actually he made the comment when the US was only offering 35MM in relief for the tsunami victims and the party was costing 40MM.

I say donate the 1/2 of it to the victims and order out for dominos.

Also, send the 120MM earmarked in this budget for promoting marriage.

You can leave off the military aid.

The military aid wasn't announced when he made the comment.

Just read that federal employees are given the day off on inaugaration day, at a cost of 66 million dollars.

Also, federal government told DC they'd have to pay their own money for police overtime, etc., at a cost of almost 12 million dollars.

GAO won't say how much the event costs the federal government. The $40MM price tag given out is paid by private donations.

1) Bush only gave $10,000 of his own money to the relief effort. All of this talk about how much the US gave does not equate to how gratuitious our own President Bush was when he whipped out the checkbook. 10k is measly. A Rookie QB in the NFL gave more for crying out loud.

2) THIS inaugration is slated to be in excess of 40 million. A record.

3) Right on Mark Cuban! (still shouldn't have gotten rid of nash tho)

Speaking of getting funds elsewhere............

D.C. officials said yesterday that the Bush administration is refusing to reimburse the District for most of the costs associated with next week's inauguration, breaking with precedent and forcing the city to divert $11.9 million from homeland security projects. Federal officials have told the District that it should cover the expenses by using some of the $240 million in federal homeland security grants it has received in the past three years -- money awarded to the city because it is among the places at highest risk of a terrorist attack.

But that grant money is earmarked for other security needs, Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D) said in a Dec. 27 letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Joshua B. Bolten and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. Williams's office released the letter yesterday...

A spokesman for Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, which oversees the District, agreed with the mayor's stance. He called the Bush administration's position "simply not acceptable."

"It's an unfunded mandate of the most odious kind. How can the District be asked to take funds from important homeland security projects to pay for this instead?" said Davis spokesman David Marin.
The region had earmarked federal homeland security funds for such priorities as increasing hospital capacity, equipping firefighters with protective gear and building transit system command centers.

A rookie QB in the NFL makes a LOT more than the PResident does. In 1992, the average salary for all NFL QBs was $929,000. Not sure what the average rook QBmakes, but it's mroe than 400K.

Bush gave 5% of his base pay to a relief effort......STFU.

The President of the United States earns $400,000 a year. In addition, his tax return for '03 showed over $800k. Do the math, 10k isn't 5% of his base or his yearly income.

That rookie QB in question is Ben Roethlisberger and his base salary is $230,000. He donated his first NFL playoff paycheck to the relief effort. Heaven forbid you do some searching before you open your mouth. STFU

The Pres. also gets much more furnished for him than a QB. Nevertheless, I still think 10k from his own pocket is plenty.

And? What did you give you sophomoric, pedantic, whiny ass snail eating fuckstick? He gave one paycheck to a relief effort.....oooooooooooooooooh. That doesnt include endorsements, commericals, public appearance fees, autographs, et al. Are you really that fucking stupid? LEmme guess...you got lost on your way to www.democraticunderground.com ,eh?

Yes, I made a small error....5% of 400K is 20K...so he gave 2.5% of his salary. He also tithes, so it's safe to say that a good chunk of that is going to the victims......it ends up pretty close to 5%, in any case.

You'd make a lot more sense if you didn't have Michael Moore's meatstick in the back of your throat.

Fucking noob.
