Its about time these fools pulled their heads out of their ass and recognized who the best RB in the nation is.

Whoa, I don't know about that. If I had to take one running back for one game tomorrow i'd take Peterson. He's the best back in the country IMO.

but Benson did get the shaft in the heisman running. I mean Reggie Bush....are you kidding me??  Benson should have been in the top 5.

I am not sold on Peterson. Its ONE season that he's done this. Lets see if he can put up these same #'s next season. One season does not make the man. Ced has done what he does day in, day out for 4 long years and I'd definately take him over Peterson any day of the week.

Plus, Peterson is damaged goods because of his bum shoulder. I hope it heals up fast so he can lay the smack down on USC's PAC-10 weak ass.

If you want to go into the #'s:

Cedric Benson:

11 games

303 carries

1,764 rushing yards

160.4 yards per game

5.8 yards per carry

19 TD's

Adrian Peterson:

12 games

314 carries

1,843 rushing yards

153.6 yards per game

5.9 yards per carry

15 TD's

More yards per game and more TD's with the same amount per carry. Looks like Ced is the better of the 2 when it comes down to what each has done this year.

Also, look at the recieving for each player:

Ced has 22 catches for 179 yards and 1 TD

vs.

Peterson has 3 catches for 6 yards.

Congrats to Ced.

Your posts amaze me every time.

Peterson has played in 12 games and averaged 150 yards a game. Not sold on him? So a player has to play for 4 years before you are sold on him?

He has a bum shoulder since A&M that let him rush for 250 and 174 and 6 td's the last 2 games? Wow, that shoulder is really bothering him.

Man, you ought to be an ESPN analyst.

Again, one game does not make the man nor does one season. If he continues to go on the tear that he has been on then I'll be more than happy to give him props.

The college game has seen tons of flash in the pan type players and Peterson could very well be the next.

Lets see what he does in the big-time national spotlight vs. Bush/White.

Hey, I'm rooting for him do to good in this game.

Granted, Peterson will have to prove himself next year. But if you are going to compair the two all you can use for Peterson is this year. Who has performed better in the big games? Benson hasn't done a thing in his career against his best opponent (OU). Petersons best games are against two very good opponents (UT and OSU). I would take Benson, unless I was playing a great team with a solid run defense, then I'd take Peterson (I'd rather have Peterson anyway, but that is the only way I would choose Benson over him). Benson is a great back, no question, but he isn't the best imo.

They didn't play head to head. They are both on offense.

Jason, Peterson has a better chance to play well in big games since OU has a passing offense. Benson has had to contend with everyone on the line all year because Young can't throw.

When Peterson bulks up, he'll be an awesome back. Texas lost the recruiting war and will be paying for it for the next 2 years.

Comeon NFL, let 18 year olds play pro ball. :p

Are you saying he had 250 yards rushing against A&M? He only had 101 if I remember correctly.

Sorry, had to stick up for my Aggies! :)

Lets put it this way, Peterson and Benson are the two best running backs in the country (forget about Reggie Bush). I still think Peterson is the better back, but just for the sake of argument, if he isn't the better back now he will be in the long run.

<-----waits for Benson to follow Ricky's path.

Congrats to Benson. He is definately one of the premiere backs in the Country.

As far as the Benson/Peterson argument, its hard to argue with either side.

Everybody wants to argue that because Vince Young isnt a threat to throw the football, that Benson making his yards against 8-9 guys in the box is more impressive. But Texas's offense is based on a zone read rushing attack. So, the entire offense is focused on RUNNING the football. Im a firm believer that if Peterson was in this same offense, you'd see Abesolutely Mind Boggling #'s. But we can argue til we're blu in the face...Both are nice backs.

When it comes down to my honest opinion, this is how I call it......

I have only missed a handful of OU home games in the last 20 years. I've seen a hell of ALOT of gifted Tailbacks play in person. (Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Lawrence Phillips, Ahman Green, and many others) Im telling you, I have never ever seen anyone do some of the things physically that Peterson does. Its on some of the small runs, that never make highlight films, where he may only gain 3-4 yards. Where any other back would have been dropped for a loss.

Peterson is very young, and yes.. .ANYTHING can happen. But with his attitude and work ethic, and his God Given talent, I still think we are witnessing the next great athlete of our time. You can take that shit to the bank.

how ??? If he's so much better than Cedric, his #'s would blow Ced's out of the water. He IS set up with a better chance to run the ball and not have the line stacked on him.

I HAVE TO call B.S. on that. You just implied that Adrian Peterson is better and has better moves than Barry Sanders. You need to be sent to time-out in the corner and all posting priveleges stripped for a day or so :D .

I'd pick Cedric any day.
