Just leave the gas pedal on the floor while you upshift. Shift quickly.

So it's like powershifting, just slower. But it keeps you from f#cking up your synchros so bad?

Not really....you just hit the rev limiter but thats it.

If your scared to do it, don't try it. make the switch to automatic :D

I think its more useful when downshifting. Autocrossers do that kind of stuff.

Double clutching is a term used with much older cars, the ones that really didn't have syncros....It was a way to make sure u were in gear, the right gear

If anyone nowadays talks about "double clutching" there a fuckin moron....Thats what syncros are for

Major term in roadracing like unseen stated so you can down shift in the turn and have the trans in a lowergear gear so you can wot at a givin point during the turn without the rearend coming around on you. This is for agressive driving on a course so people who use it in the correct area (not dragracing) are not morons.

Josh

Run you car up to 5k rpms in 3rd then slow down fast (not a stop) and stick it in first and let out on the clutch quickly (racing) and the rear tires will squeal from trying to slow down too fasy syncros or not. If you double clutch to get the rmps lined up with the rearend this wont happen

Don't worry about your syncors. You just have to practice speed shifting first (where you push in the clutch let off the gas just a second, and shift to the next gear), then when you get good at that simply leave your foot on the gas and push in the clutch and pull the next gear. Undoubtly the hardest gear to power shift is 2nd to 3rd since it is an up and over shift, but with practice you can get it. If you miss the gear of course you risk grinding the gears more, but just be quick to stop or realize you missed the shift and give up the race. With my last car I had a T-5, King Cobra clutch, and could power shift so hard it sounded like the rear end was about to break when the pinion snubber hit the rear axel. It shifted so hard with Nitto 555R's that it pulled the car to the right with torque. Good luck and I didn't think I could do it either, miss to many shift and you will need a new tranny though.

declutch
move gearshift lever to neutral
engage clutch
match revs
declutch
move gearshift lever to next lower gear
engage clutch

for snycro alignment to keep from grinding.

you can also have a double clutch up shift. I wounder if we can get Carless Chris to chime in on his perfected technique. Oh Chris?

:D

I'm sure power shifting is worth more than .1-.2.... I'm guessing about .3-.4.

Here's how i practice.

Start with a low rpm, like 3K for example. Keep you foot on the gas (not to the floor) and tap the clutch and shift real quick while your foot is still on the gas. Your rpms will jump some but if you shift fast enough you'll car will sound like an auto.
Keep that up until you feel comfortable to try a higher rpm.

for someone that has NEVER done it that is a great way for them to learn with out hurting things. I used to do the same thing.

1-2 I'm ok
2-3 I'm not so good :o

I always thought of double clutching as when I'm in gear and since my gearing ratio is so low and my horsepower band is at a higher RPM....you leavve your foot on the gas and pop the clutch in and rrealse it but quick...it helps to get 1-2 more mph but sometimes thats more than enough to win the race.

If you drive your car to the track and still have a T-5, powershifting is not a good idea! Unless you have friends with a trailer close by.... :D Do it consistently and sooner or later you are gonna be walking!
