If it is going to be for gaming then I would go with one of these:
http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800pro/
If not going to be for gaming then go with something more along the lines of a GeForce card.

Here's the real question. Will you be playing games? or doing some sort of 3d Animation?
a 9800Pro is a good card, it's pretty great..
but you might also want to consider a 6600GT, it'll blow the 9800pro outta the water, and it's cheaper.
or a 6800nu (which most can be modded to a GT), that'll also blow the 9800pro outta the water..
don't get me wrong though..the 9800pro is a GREAT card..you can get very good performance out of it. But with the new technology always coming out, might as well get the newer technology..
my vote goes for a 6600GT (around 200bux) or a 6800nu (around 300 bux)
but you can't go wrong with a 9800pro either.
With any of those choices you can't go wrong...
see what you can find in your local stores, and get what suits your budget.

those cards aren't "shit"
the 6800GT is prolly the best bang for your buck right now
and the 6800ultra is the best card out right now.
Where the hell can you find an X800XT or X800Pro for 200-300 dollars like he said he wanted to spend.
