I finally got a DVD writer and want to back up some older DVDs.
Some are encrypted. So, I have DVD shrink 3.2, DVD decrypter and dvd x-copy.
DVD x-copy doesn't seem to work too well on the encrypted discs.
Can someone walk me through the basic process of copying an encrypted DVD?

Its really easy. Dvd shrink is needed when you have a dvd that is more than the 4.5 gig dvds. It compresses the video to make it fit onto a dvd. When you first insert the dvd, it scans it and such. Then you can go back and change the different compression levels. In my case, I make the menu lowest quailty, take out extras and diff lang audio (french, german, etc) and then the main video shoots way up. 70% + is a very good quality. If the dvd is less then 4.5 gigs, you can use dvd decrypter and copy the dvd info over to your dvd, and have an exact copy of the retail dvd. Also, both programs let you remove the regions and such. Hope this helps.
The DVD Shrink and decrypter is all you need. Basically rip it to your hd with decrypter, "shrink" and or delete unwanted crap with DVD shrink, and burn the copy with decrypter. You can select to burn automatically with decrypter or nero.
Let me find the step by step guide and ill post it up. Its so easy an idiot like me can do it, LOL

DVD decrypter has a lot of options like under the Mode menu, there's file, ifo and iso read and write. Any idea what those are for?

Cool. When its done open it( VIDEO_TS.IFO) with Shrink, Delete the garbage, click backup and select burn with dvd decrypter.....I think you may have to switch decry. mode from read to write also.
I'd c/p that guide but its got pictures and shit, prob won't show here.

It looks like it's all working. I'll report back. Thanks!

Yea you should have it in read now to rip the dvd. It has to be in write to burn.... That link i posted shows you the settings.
Now why would you need to use DVD Decrypter? DVD shrink does the same job as well. You don't need to compress the DVD, you can make Shrink to divide it into two discs.
Shrink won't get past SOME incrypted dvd's. Decrypter has ripped everything i've thrown at it.

Very rare, I have only encountered that in the past, not recently. In most cases a retry was successful with DVD Shrink. I don't even have Decrypter on my computer anymore as I haven't needed it.
