I'm starting to hate Norton - it doesnt catch anything! Yes, my virus definitions are up to date. I heard AVG is pretty good, but it will no longer be supported as of 12/31/04 so I figure why waste my time.

What else is out there, that actually works?

Oh man, that sucks that AVG is going to charge. I had no idea... have been using AVG for years. Guess all good things must come to an end.
There is another free anti-virus called AVAST but I really haven't used it much.
Anyone know if it's any good?

AVG is not going to charge for their free edition;
December 31st, 2004, database updates and support for older versions of AVG Free Edition will no longer be available. If you are currently using an older version of AVG Free Edition, we encourage you to download the new version of AVG Free Edition by the end of 2004. GRISOFT will notify AVG Free Edition users about the availability of the new AVG Free Edition via the regular update process.

I believe they are going to discontinue updates for the current version. If you download and install the new version, it should be supported.
Theyre not going to put out any more updates, though, correct?
The quote that I posted above states "support for OLDER versions of AVG Free Edition will no longer be available" and "download the NEW version of AVG Free Edition". No where does it state that there will be no more updates.

I'm using free AGV v7.0.289 and I'm really happy with it. I doubt that they will begin charging for updates, although, I can see where they may quite supporting older versions requiring users to upgrade...

I love AGV, been pretty happy with it on all my boxes.
