What kind of bike is it?
Ususally you can do a slip on and swap out sprockets. These will usually yield a freety fast street bike.

Most riders will upgrade the exhaust. Some do it for sound, some do it for performance.
Typically bikes that are stock are in desperate need of a tune. They come from the factory lean. If you have a FI bike, then a power commander you will need. If you have a carbed bike, then a jet kit will you need to install. Let us not forget the much needed sprocket swap. 1 tooth down in the front sprocket will give you more low end punch. You loose top end, but who rides at over 150 mph for very long?!?
Start with an exhaust, preferably a full system. Get her dynotuned so that you can make sure its done right and properly tuned. I prefer my carbed bikes to run a bit rich.
Good luck!

Man you sound like you need to be very careful when you get your bike. Yes, they all come up if you "PUNCH" it in first gear!
Even your 600 will come up.

Keep your butt out of the throttle. ;)
Seriously, I just started riding 4 months ago. Ask as many "dumb" questions as you can think of. There's no such thing as dumb questions.......only dumb dead newbie riders who didn't ask dumb questions.

you're the guy thats interested in buyin my bike, right? well, my bike already has a K&N filter, and a Hindle exhaust so i mean.. you're set as far as basic bolt on mods. this bike will not come up (far) in first by just punching it.. but it will easily do a wheelie if you punch it, let off, and then immediately punch it again. alot of people mod the sprockets.. thats what i'd recommend you do.. go with like a 1 down sprocket (one less tooth) in the front for starters and that will give you more torque, it'll feel alot quicker.. and also do wheelies easier. it'll affect top end a little bit but not much. and no, the 600 will NOT be too small for you for a first bike. if anything, its too big, but if you've ridden your dad's bike for a while, then at least you have some experience on a bike with power.
