Came across a new GTO tonight out in the Murphy/Wylie area.
It was a real nice color blue......those things run pretty good, not good enough for a little 302 though!!!!!! :D

I believe they are only a high 13/14 second car.

Oh really, I thought they ran faster than that, well that explains it

That GTO looks like crap...saw one and thought it was 4-cylinder until I heard it...
Has a good engine & drive train.....same as 2004 Vette.....is fast
weakness is the skinny 245-ZR-17 tires on the stock car....no grip..
with those it runs in high 13's to low 14s.......change wheel/tire size and it will be a second faster.
....GM can't sell it.....they have big discounts.......like $6500 under sticker, so you can get one new for around $27K....but nobody wants a car that plain.....
I prefer a used 2003 SVT Cobra over the new GTO any day.......

It musta been an 04, not sure if you would have owned a LS2 that badly... ;)

If you did, I got one in the garage that will make a name for the LS2 in stock form better than a 3600 lb Grand AM. :o

the ls1 has 350 hp right? what does the ls2 have, 400?

I think they make family men happy to have a little power in a family type sedan! LOL

They do drive and handle really well and not ugly they just aren't hotrods. Should have been called Lemans not GTO.

Yes, the new LS2 GTO will have 400 HP. That's 100 more HP than the 2005 Mustang GT at around the same weight and price.

That car is no GTO, it looks like a Cavalier, I crept up on one on 75 and I really did think it was a Cavaleir until it throttle a little bit and then I knew, but as far as looks, it sucks! I went to the Autoshow in Feb. and I asked the salesman if they had one, he said you just walked right past it. The old GTO's had real motors and HP under the hood and they looked mean, this car is a joke, LS1 or LS2...'H'

Same wieght, yes... Same price??? NOOOO.

The 04' GTO's with MAJOR discounts are going for about $27K-28K, because dealer lots are STILL full of them. They MSRP around the mid-30's (Cobra/Lightning range).

From what I heard last month, there were STILL over 5,000 '04 GTO's on dealer lots. I believe it, too. James Wood in Denton had 5 when I test-drove one about 3 weeks ago. Vista Ridge Pontiac has like 6 of them.

Dealers have even resorted to decking out their existing '04's with the new '05 hood, just so they can get rid of them.

I wish they would drop the price some more on the GTO. Pontiac is doing 3500 cash back on them as well.

They can't get rid of em because no one wants a year old car with a shit ass motor compared to the new one at about the same price... at least no one with half a brain would... ;)

Supposedly $26K-$28. But you mention the '05 GTO has 100 HP more than the '05 Mustang GT around the same price. The '05 GTO will run in the mid $30K's.

Boss Hogg

Ah, I didn't realize people would pay $7k - $8k more for a 05 GTO.

I'd stick with an 04 for that much of a price difference.

Txstang1
10-22-2004, 07:18 PM
I think it'll be tough selling an 05 for that much money, unless the do something to make them look better....I wouldn't even consider one just because i dont like the way they look

I kind of remember Jupiter pontiac having about 30 of the 35th anniversary TA's they could not get rid of either. Pontiac just needs to step back and sell cars to rental fleets.....

I agree. Pontiac is going the way of oldsmobile where they have nothing that really stands out of the lineup from other GM offerings. Hell, I saw an ad for the new G6 and it looks just like every rent car jellybean profile out there. No character whatsoever. None of those FWD lumps interest me in the least.

I believe that the half-baked GTO was pontiac's knee-jerk reaction to the firebird being killed off. What a shame that it was so poorly executed. I don't believe that corporate GM will allow pontiac to "fix" it (too much $$$), even if pontiac had the people that could do so.

Back when I worked at the David McDavid detail shop I got to drive one of the GTOs. The problem with them is the fact that the frame of the GTO is from Austrailia and the roads down there are alot more bumpier and therefore need stiffer metal to keep the car from falling apart. GM did nothing but take the Camaro/firebird motor out of one car and then put it in a Australian car. They sound nice but they feel like driving a lead sled.
