View Full Version : Dyno Tuned the FRC yesterday

So I bought the car friday from a guy in Charlotte NC. He had the tune and motor work done at Moore Performance in NC. They for some reason tuned it with a 93octane/100octane mix. Well they dynoed 423/395 SAE with 34 degrees of total timing. Obviously that timing is outrageous in Dallas on 93 octane so it needed to be retuned.

Well Z28HO "Mark" at Keith Craft and I played with it yesterday for a couple hours. Took 5 degrees out on the big end leaving 29 total timing. Took a few degrees out through the mid range. Added a butt load of fuel. Put the stock injectors at 95% duty cycle from like 5krpm up. The temp in the shop was 99.61 degrees. STD #'s were 421rwhp/385rwtq. We tried to switch it to SAE to see what it would be corrected for optimal weather but it wasnt programmed right. From previous cars from less heat to the SAE point we've seen over 10rwhp difference as a safe guess. So the car probably put down roughly 431rwhp with a lot less timing. I got some 30# injectors going in, replacing the shitty stock plug wires with Taylors and TR55 plugs and gonna retune it and from what I am told it should be good for another 5rwhp or more.

Mods are:
LS6 intake
Vararam air intake
Texas Speed stage 2 LS1 heads
Texas Speed 237 cam (231/237, .598"/.595", 112+2)
LG Pro 1 3/4" long tube headers
LG Pro high flow catted X pipe
Corsa catback
(stock airbridge, stock mass air, stock injectors, stock t/b)

Congrats on the car! how do you like it? Sounds like it has some power in it. Are you going to the fall cruise on sunday?

Tweakd
10-20-2004, 09:43 AM
Yeah I will there Sunday. I love the car so far. It hauls ass. Not sure what it will run but going off what my friends Z06's have ran with less power it has 7.4's or better at potential 100mph in the 1/8th. I also need to figure out how to shift as well as I use to with my cast on my wrist but I'll figure it out.

I thought SAE numbers were always lower than STD? either way that's nice power. :)

I know that SAE #'s are always lower when its colder then the correction but Strokd picked up 17rwhp or something at 21st Century in 88degrees to the SAE correction. I don't see how you would lose power to colder weather, it should be higher in more optimal air I would logically think, either way the car isn't on the Go or Blow tune anymore and runs great so that was what I was truely looking for..

Good grief, that thing will be a highway monster. I agree that 100mph 1/8th could be possible with as skinny as you are.

You should sell that catted H-pipe and Corsa catback for $1000.
Then get a Greg Garcia exhaust system (offroad H, Bullet Race Mufflers, no catback).

You'd make money, drop alot of weight, and make more HP.

It's about time you have something that you can back up that mouth with. :p

LMAO yeah weight advantage rules all!

I really don't want it any louder then it already it, I'd like to make more power but still with the current exhaust. It surprisingly doesn't sound like an LS1 drone or Corsa Boat exhaust. As Strokd pointed out it kinda sounds like a bastardized Ferrari. It rips pretty good and doesn't have the shit sound I hate from a lot of LSx's.

The only race I've had was a pullied up 03/04 Cobra in Knoxville TN on my way home and I worked him over pretty bad twice. So I know she runs like a mofo on the big end. That vararam air intake is cool as hell, I sware it pulls harder in 3rd and 4th then it does in 1st and 2nd.

It probably only hooks up in 3rd and 4th. Traction rules all.

surprisingly enough I have yet to get it to spin in any gear from any launch, obviously trying to launch. I don't know why but she hooks up great so far.

It's a 2000 Pewter FRC Corvette. It will have black powdercoated rear wheels on sunday and stock Y2K polished wheels on the front, shouldn't be hard to find ;)

He will be at the meet tonight, so if you wanna see it tonight at Sonic, come on out. He's gonna be dragging a black 03 Cobra up and down the road... :D

The FRC is a Z06 style, stands for Fixed Roof Coupe. The "Coupe" is a hatchback style with a removeable take off roof sort of like a Targa. The FRC is called a Hardtop by Chevrolet, and has a huge ass back end on it. Sort of like a LX Coupe vs a hatchback... ;)

The FRCs are about 100 lbs lighter from what I remember, and a little more gutted and down to business inside, not as many power gadgets like the hatches or converts.

You need a better cam.

Tweakd
10-20-2004, 01:40 PM

Cmarsh93z
10-20-2004, 01:46 PM
Only reason I say that is, if you made 42x STD, then you only made ~ 410-415 SAE. There are many Stock Z06's making ALMOST that with those headers and bolt-ons (~390-399). With your setup, you should be in the ~450 range SAE.....I did a 1998 vette awhile back with home ported LS1 heads, and a smaller cam that did 450 rwhp. If you want help with a cam, pm me!

I have TEA Stage II LS1 heads so they should be similar to a LS6 head if I am guessing right. Sure peak hp is cool and all but I want something with area under the curve and so far which I cant backup with track times yet the car has nuts from a punch.its only a 6700 rpm cam. I bought the car this way and probably won't be changing the cam anytime soon. Not to say I wont consider it but for now I am happy with it.

You came from a car that ran 8s in the 1/8 with nitrous (two of em) and two turbos and a 500ci motor. Of course the Vette feel like it has nuts. :p :D

Tweaked, you and I need to race when I'm on the pony wheels with my 245/50/16 Nittos on the back. I have to turn the boost way down and it will run in the 7.3-7.4 area that way.

I believe Jim's old ZO6 ran some 7.2s at 99 with 430rwhp.

I raced Jim's car back when he made 430rwhp and I was in Kumar's 413rwhp Z06 and I beat him at Hallsville, if memory serves right he had E/T streets and Kumar's car had Kumho's. I don't remember his car ever running a 7.2 but it could have it made the power. I don't know what the 1/8 mile times were then but he ran an 11.9 @ 125 I believe to my 11.77 @ 124. Whatever that equates to in the 1/8 should give you a rough estimate of where I should be sitting.
